Rileys Hide Help

When a purchased my setup i bought a wodden log hide for Riley whcih he can go under and also bask on top of, the kind you see in most pet stores the problem is he doesnt use it and when i let crickets into his viv they hide under it. My real question is do Beardies need a "hide" or can I just replace it with a normal slate rock and eliminate the hide altogether?

Mine doesn't use hers either. I have a fake plant on one side of it, and she goes under the plant and sticks her head in it at night to sleep. When she wants out of the "sun" she goes under her hammock where its shady. You should try feeding in a separate container, it really helps with counting and if he/she doesn't eat everything you just dump back in the bin/bag you store them in.
