I used to have a bearded dragon but I'm pretty sure I did most of the stuff wrong. I need a refresher on caring for a bearded dragon and what I need. I know it says what type of bulbs to use but what type of wattage do I need for the uvb bulb that goes inside the tank? And what kind of basking lights would anyone recommend and what wattage as well?

UVB lighting depends on distance and basking lights depend on heat. Generally I prefer T5 UVB tubes and halogen flood lights for basking but it varies depending on the setup. Can you give me some details about the setup you're planning? What are the dimensions of the tank? I'll be glad to help you find the right fit for lighting.

The tank is a 40 gallon tank so 36x18x16. I'm not sure about the set up yet, was going to do that based on what kind of lights to use.

That's similar to mine then. I'd go with a 22'' T5 and set it next to the basking light. http://www.lightyourreptiles.com/22-t-5-ho-fixture-high-output-with-arcadia-d3-12-ho-bulb/ It should sit about 12'' above the basking area for best results. Maybe 10'' if it's shining through a mesh top which will intercept some of the output.
