What causes retained shed? My dragons are all shedding fine, but one has a duller drier tail then normal. I noticed it when he shed his tail last week, about half way down is where it starts and it extends to teh end. It looks very dull and dry. I am going to get some aloe and try rubbing that on his tail to see if it is retained shed, but I want to fix the problem that must of caused it. I bath him every other day, temps are at 105-109 with the cool end at 81-85. He eats greens, crickets, pheonix worms, superworms. I have a reptisun 10.0 uvb...purchased new as of 12/27/08 placed over him some time around the 5th of January. He is caged by himself in a 36x24x18 melamine cage. OH and he is about 7 months old.

Thank you,

Stephanie

Also, I check temps on all my reptiles with a temp gun, plus I occasionally will check with a thermometer and wire probe.

Hi...some dragons shed unevenly and take longer to shed than others. Some shed their back then a few days later they shed their tail or head. Please don't try to pick it off. Just soak him a couple times a day. He probably doesn't need to aloe, tho it won't hurt him.
Good luck

Nah it isn't loose there would be no way to pick it off, I would end up taking off scales if I tried. I found another dragon that has what he has but it was on a breeder site and I wouldn't want to take the pictures to post what it looks like as I am sure they are copyrighted. I will try to get pictures of him tomorrow and post them. I have been soaking him, but it doesn't seem to change. Do they shed the ends of their tail less often then the rest of themselves?

Hi there, my beardy has just shed her chin, then the main body, then her legs is now showing signs of her head and her tail is much darker than the rest and i'm waiting for that to shed next. So don't worry its the quite normal for my beardy to do this and it sounds like it is for yours. Julie

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
