Here's some dramatic pictures of a beaded lizard I got with horrible retained shed and likely fungal infection on its head. I got the lizard shipped to me and was not told about how bad of condition he was in. I also had to amputate about 0.5" of its tail. It was as bad as the head...but the tail tip was not salvageable.
Daily Neosporin mixed with micotin cream, debridement, and colloidal silver took care of the problem within two weeks. The healing was surprisingly rapid!! The scales and tissue under the brown area was raw and horribly malformed. The scales are still malformed and the lizard has a slight dent in its head where the problem was...but I'm thrilled with how well it healed. I was so impressed I bought a colloidal silver generator just in case I have to deal with any skin problems in my collection in the future.
(Blurry picture...sorry)

All better now

You can see the right eye is bulging a bit. The infection was in both eyes. I think the muscles got so stretched out the eyes may never fit correctly in the orbital socket. I'm still treating the eyes with colloidal silver.
I don't recommend most people deal with complex issues at home. I just have been doing this stuff for a long time. I'm also a nurse and I don't have any experienced vets that deal with venomous reptiles near me. My usual vet isn't a reptile vet...he just isn't afraid to see them.
