Retained shed gone and nasty cracks left on new skin :(

I've reposted this from my other thread.

Well the nasty shed has finally gone on her head.. its still on her back BUT its moving finally! Can't believe its taking this long poor baby. I got the shedding aid and i think thats whats finally moved the 3 layers that were stuck on :shock: with daily baths then showers aswell.
She always shedded perfectly.. the only thing thats changed is we got them both new Arcadia 12% UVs. Moe is fine though and they were bought from the same shop at the same time, in the same boxes and same batch numbers.

But i've now got a new problem with her In normal daylight her back is dark brown.. had a shock when i took this pic and it looked black

I've never seen those cracks in her skin before and its only since the retained shed came off 2 days ago... I'm putting a small dish of water in her viv for a few hours each day to raise the humidity as i've only just realised zero humidity is bad *hides in shame*. It doesn't seem to be bothering her at the moment but im scared they will open and weep if she gets much drier. The scales between the cracks are really solid unlike her legs for example which are unaffected.

Will putting 100% Aloe gel on her when her lights go out help with this?

This is how she used to be colourwise and i want to get her back to.

If the only difference is the UV then that may be the issue. I have noticed in some things that bother one dragon won't affect another. This is said with humans, allergies for example, one might be allergic to grass while others are not. It may also be a bad light. Switch it out if this is the only thing you can think of that is different. Concerning other topics in your post I am not sure of but, I know others will be.

You can use aloe, it should help some. I had a rescue with multiple layers of skin and I ended up using vit E oil to soften the skin, the skin ended up so soft that I had to gently scrub it away but at least it finally came off.
If the humidity is too low, you can always run a cool mist humidifier in the room the dragon is housed in, especially while shed is shedding.

Poor girl, I hope that aloe or Vitamin E will soothe that a bit. And the dark patches on her back are the unshed skin, in layers ? As far as helping shed, I've always sprayed my dragons twice daily when shedding. I think people in general get spraying and misting confused....or at least the amount to spray. You need not do the entire tank, just the body of the lizard, and when I spray them, they instinctively lower their head as the head is designed to funnel the water to the mouth, and they drink. So spraying to aid a shed and also to hydrate can take place at the same time. If too much excess water pools in the tank, just wipe it up.

Yes the dark patches are still to come off.. i've had one lot come off her back and head a few weeks ago but it hardly made a difference. I wish you could have seen what came off her head the start of this week.. it was like a skull cap it was that thick

The Aloe should be here either this morning or tomorrow, i ordered it anyway even if it couldn't be used so happy to hear it can (Haha 5 mins after i posted and the postmans just knocked the door with it )

I'll start spraying her now, her lights have been on an hour so spray now, bath about 2pm then spray again about 7pm then shes got a couple hours before light out and the Aloe goes on. I'm going to keep the Vit E oil in mind incase the Aloe isn't doing much, good to know theres other options though :headbang:

Im wary of using a humidifier in the room as its the main living room with a lot of electrical equipment and precious family photo's up. I'll have to speak to the other half and see what he says to it as its mainly all his stuff :lol: Definately an option i'll look into though if he gives it the nod

I've still got her 6% tube as it was only a 6 months old and Arcadia's are good for 12 months so going to switch it back temporarily and see how she goes. We've been having nice sunny weather at the moment so i can take her outside to top up her UV.

A happy update - sprayed her yesterday morning, then shower/bathed at dinner time, then sprayed again last night. I absolutely plastered her in Aloe gel at bed time and come to shower/bath time today and a huge piece of the retained shed had lifted away and come off in the bath with a little gentle persuasion!

Her skin is still a little dark underneath but i can start to see a pattern again Also the cracks on the back of her neck don't look as dry and angry as they did before!

Im sticking with the routine for a while yet and she seems to be lapping up the extra attention the little madam, poor Moe's going to start getting jealous at this rate :lol:

Hey ! That's great ! I figured she would cooperate with the recommended therapies since she was obviously studying the thread there in the picture of her at the computer,and decided that all the advice sounded good. LOL !
