About 3 -4 weeks ago, Stewie broke off the tip of his tail. He had retained shed that I just couldn't get to come off, and I thought it was loosening - but turns out the tip had no circulation. So it was black and the very tip broke off. Boy was I wreck!!! There was pink flesh there, no bleeding. So I called the vet, they said just put ointment on it and watch. So I have. It starting turning black again, and then I noticed it looked very lumpy. I rubbed it just a little and pretty good amount of dead skin came off. Blackish skin. There is about a pinhead size of pink on the tip that I can see, where I think the wound is still closing. It looks pretty normal now. At what point do I wonder if this was more than retained shed, and not something like tail rot?
