I rescued Onyx this past Friday, from a pet store. The girl that helped us, well she was less than informed about beardies; we'll just say...Anyway, we brought him to his new home, a mansion to what he was in. His new home is a 20 gal tank, newspaper substrate, a tunnel, and a perch. We have a ReptiSun 10.0 for UV, and currently a 100w light for basking. All temperatures are within range. He is slightly older than my first, Copper, and much larger (nearly twice his weight). He has a tail nip, and on his rear left foot, only 1 toe.
His tank at the store was MAYBE 2ft by 2ft by 1ft...if that! They did have a nice salad for him, that was finely minced, and a carpet substrate. As for his lighting while at the store, I'm not even sure what it was. The girl that worked there startled the poor boy (I'm generalizing here) and he got scared, and she proceeded to tell us that she handled him everyday, and that "he's a runner". I would be too if you handled me that way! We are trying to gain his confidence in us by handling him for 30 minutes tops a couple times a day.
So here's my problem: We fed Onyx just a few crickets (no more than 5) Saturday morning. He did poop that morning as well, but it appeared to be extremely dry. Though he was still skittish, he was active. Yesterday we noticed that he was barely moving. My boyfriend suggested we try a warm bath as he might be impacted. We did, with the temperature of the water between 95-100 degrees. My poor Onyx just laid on my hand, didn't even attempt to open his eyes. At this point, I'm starting to worry. While in the bath, I rested him so that his lips would just brush the top of the water. He still didn't even nodge, though he did open one eye...A few hours after his bath, he did go, and it was large, but still on the dry side. Afterwards he was much more active, roaming around his tank.
This morning however, after turning on his lights, he moved from his sleeping spot to a darker part of his tank, and proceeded to lay there. When the time came for him to come out, he didn't move when I opened his tank, and SLOWLY lifted his hideaway...usually he jumps. When I picked him up he was VERY Cool, and after 25 minutes in my hand or on my chest (direct skin to belly), he's warmed up, but is still extremely lethargic.
