What a beautiful dragon :)

What is Yellow Fungus and how do they get it?

Marie x

It's a serious and often fatal necrotic fungal infection of the skin and deeper tissue. It's contagious and is contracted via contact or open wounds.

Lecko, if you have betadine you can add it to the bath (so long as he doesn't drink it) to help minimize the risk of spreading to other parts of the body if it is fungal. It may also help with his feet. Antibiotics don't work on fungal infections as you have likely read, but may still be needed for his poor foot. They can be hard on the system, but I've heard great things about the probiotics helping dragons get through antibiotic treatment. Good luck finding him a vet and with his recovery! Hopefully this little guy has something else, he's such a little cutie!

Yay! The eye is fully opened! That's a pretty good sign! Can you make out anything that looks like a bite or scratch mark on his face, or is it still too puffy/flaky? And does it continue down under his chin into his beard? It looks like it might from the pictures but it's not super clear...

Hello,

It was looking like yellow fungus initially but is looking much better now. :D Has he finished shedding?
It does look very thick on the eye area for shedding but hopefully it will all come off.
Around the eye area I would use the unpasteurized honey or manuka honey if you can to help as that would not hurt if it got in his eye.
For his foot, just soak it in a diluted betadine solution daily & use antibiotic ointment on the one with the bite. On the other areas, you can use honey or the lamisil or monistat, either one.
I would also recommend getting some probiotics to help balance out his system right now such as non dairy soy yogurt or acidophiliz. Some bee pollen would be useful to help out his appetite & immune system, too.
He sure is a pretty little dragon. :D

Keep us posted on him.

Thank you for the reply!

He isn't shedding from what I can tell. The eye has looked that way for over a mint from what I can gather.

Does it look like yellow fungus?

It isn't yellow at all, but it concerns me that his skin appears to have the same texture as YF. It's flaky so soft. I put some monistat on the dark part of his back and a tiny bit on his face. I'm gonna pick up the honey today. :)

My female beardie had the same looking skin for a while on her belly, shoulder and tail. My female is also a rescue and doesn't shed properly because of her past. I used the monistat for about a week before all the yuckiness completely shed off. I was SO happy when it did but I kept applying the cream for another few days. Now she looks perfectly normal.

I do have to help her shed certain parts of her body or it builds up, the main spot being her side where she was bitten and one side of her face where she may have been bitten as well. You may find with yours you'll have to do the same. When she looks completely dry and flakey I soak her in the bath and gently massage her bad spots with a baby toothbrush, microfibre face cloth or my finger. I never pick or peel the shed but it does usually flake off quite easily.

When shes getting ready to shed I also apply some baby oil to her bad spots to hydrate them to make it a little bit more comfortable for her.

Hope this helps!

The little guy continued to go downhill despite my best effort. I am taking him to the vet, and I don't think he'll be coming back home. He stopped eating and drinking and he fights so hard when I try to force feed him with a syringe. He's barely hanging on, and it's not fair for me to keep him here when he is in so much pain. Walking is hard for him, eating is hard for him, and even breathing seems to be a battle for him.

It's time to let the little guy go.

This was NOT what I pictured when I took him from a pet store. He steadily declined once I got him home and I can't help but wonder if I did something wrong. I know it's probably not my fault, and I know I gave him a better home than the pet store, but it's hard not to wonder if he would have been okay if I left him there.

I appreciate all of you that helped out, and rooted for my little man.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
