I went to the reptile store today just to buy the feeders for my bearded dragon and pac man frog when these two teenagers came in and asked the store people if they could take their dragon. The shop keepers hemed and hawed about it so i went outside I told the kids i would take him he'd have a good home and that i would buy their cage too. so now i have a new beardie who is about 14 inchs long but skinny. i put him back in the same viv minus a few of the decorations. My qustion is he is on red sand that i will be taking him off i am trying not to over stress him how long should i wait before i get rid of the sand? the other question the sand has turned him vary red. will this go away when he sheds?
this is what i got
48x18x18 viv
1 large flat bowl
1 large water bowl
2 peices of drift wood
1 fake tree looking thing.

Wow, wish I could be that lucky! :)

I don't know about beardies but when I was still in the go-outside-and-catch-lizards-then-keep-them-for-a-few-days stage, I kept any lizards I caught on red and white calci-sand that I had mixed and they all turned red. When I went to release them I would always just take a warm wet wash cloth and run it over their bellies and rub their toes across the material gently. That cleaned them pretty well.

About the changing of the sand, I'm sure giving him a few days to adjust would be good. Although, allowing him to adjust then changing the substrate would probably be just as/more stressful as/than allowing him to adjust to everything in one go. I guess it's up to you really.

Good luck with your new beardie! :) By the way, how big is he/she?

Id sugest you do it all at once. That way he can get used to everything at once and not be stressed and then stressed again later and then again. Just wash him off really well it will go away when he/she sheads next.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
