Hello all, I just took in a new beardie a couple of weeks ago. He was turned over to the pet store I work for as the people who had him did not want to take care of him any longer. Unfortunately I was not there when they brought him in so I know very little about his previous life and what little I know is not good. He was skin and bones, lethargic and dehydrated when he came in, no interest in eating at all. All he was fed previously was grapes lettuce and crickets.........I know I know.
I took him home after others at the store said he would die, there was nothing they could do. Thankfully I had just moved my beardies around, my full grown guy into a 90gal tank, my tailless beardie, who we did not think would outgrow a 20L, into a 40 breeder because he has grown so much in the last 8 months!!!!! So luckily I had his 20L still.
Anyway on the new guy, I introduced him to hornworms, and raised his tank temps to proper levels and he did start eating. No flames about the pet store please.....I have no control over it.
He is doing great, eating crickets, hornworms, occasional superworms, peppers, greens, squash and more, eating is not an issue at this point. I do dust with calcium and vitamins regularly, He has a 10.0 a Repti-sun bulb 9 months old, but I have a new one ordered. 2 heat bulbs for basking and to get his temps up at least until his ceramic bulb comes in to help. He is in my temporary/spare 20long tank, with ceramic tile. I test temps with both a digital thermometer and a digital infrared.
The problem.......he walks and stands weird......instead of walking and standing on his feet like i would expect, feet flat on the floor, he walks on the tops of his feet, foot turned under. He turns his foot under, walking almost on his wrist????? all his feet some of the time......it looks painful, is this normal or a bone weakness? He gets around fine, however, climbing, jumping, walking, just I have never seen any beardies do this and thought I would ask.
