Reptisun question.

I just received my first Reptisun 10.0 in the mail from petmountain, along with the fixture. The tube isn't very bright at all. It barely glows. Is it supposed to be like that? It is more like a night light. I took a few photos. Please let me know if I need to send it back.

That looks about right. My ReptiSun puts out about the same light. I don't think there's anything wrong with it at all.
Keep in mind it's not meant for bright white light, it's meant for UVB light.
Your beardies need to be within 6-8 inches of that so if you moved it to the left side of your viv, along with that bright white basking bulb you already have, it looks like your beardies could get right up next to it and they'd get the benefit of the basking light and the UVB light all at once, which is very helpful. :mrgreen:
Going by your picture, it looks too high up for them on the right side where you have it now, plus there's no bright light for them there.

If you want a bulb that will provide basking light, heat, and UVB all in one, you're looking for a Mercury Vapor Bulb such and the MegaRay or T-Rex.

Yes, that helps plenty. I just wasn't sure if it was a bright light or not. If that's what it is supposed to look like then that's fine. I have brighter lights I can put with the bulb. I just didn't use them in the picture so you could understand what I was talking about. So long as the light is doing it's job, everything is cool.

Hi, I think it's not lighting up the tank much at all because it is too far away. It does look like it is putting out a bluish glow though and if so, that isn't right.

Like Youkai mentioned, the UVB and basking bulb should be right alongside each other so your beardie can get both benefits while he is basking and the UVB should be 6 to 8" from your beardie when on his basking log. So, placing the UVB behind the basking bulb would work out better. Depending on the cool side temp, you could always add a low wattage household bulb on that side. If the cool side temp is already around 80 degrees, then you can either use just a fluorescent light (non-UVB) or a household coil bulb (non-UVB) to just make the cool side brighter. Make sure you're using either a temperature gun or a digital thermometer with a long wire & probe end to check the temps though as those are the only 2 ways to get an accurate reading.

So the bluish glow isn't normal for a ReptiSun 10.0?? Just curious because my bulb looks exactly the same and if there's something wrong with that, I want to get a replacement!! :shock:

We have been using Repti-Sun's for years and none of them had a bluish glow like that, rather a soft whitish glow instead.
