Well, it appears that, for the moment, we're not going to have the time to build our own new viv for Wave, as we had hoped to do. So I'm just going to bite the bullet and buy a 40-gallon breeder, at least for the time being. (And I'll continue to hope that we either find the time to build our own, or someone will be nice at Christmas and maybe get me a custom-designed, triangular-shaped, enormous new Wave-home!)
My question is - I'm going to order a Reptisun 10.0 24" bulb and the fixture for that, but for the moment, until that arrives, would it be okay to keep Wave in the 40-gallon with the 18" bulb? (These days, she also usually goes outside for an hour or so a day, since it's so nice and warm and sunny, so she's getting some natural light, too.) None of the shops here stock the Reptisun bulbs, so I have to order. Obviously, I can wait a few days to put her in the new viv, but I can be a little over-eager.
Also, for those who use 40-gallon breeders, what wattage of light do you tend to need for the basking bulb? I've been using a 45 watt in my 20 gallon, but I know I'll need to go up. Would the 45 watt be okay in a 40 gallon to use for the cooler side of the cage, or is a 40 gallon still too small to need three lights (UVB + basking bulb + additional bulb for cool side)?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
