ReptiSpa Mercury Vapor bulb?

I was talking to a friend of mine that told me he uses this ReptiSpa bulb because it provides uvb and heat for his skink. I like the idea of providing UVB and a Spotlight together.

Has anyone used this type of bulb before? Would it be okay for a Beardie? As far as I can tell it is only available on Amazon.com so I can't read the box fully. On Amazon it says it's okay, but I wanted to know if anyone has ever encountered it before.

MVBs work for dragons, but they aren't created equally. The low quality bulbs aren't worth using. The high quality bulbs are very good but can be expensive. I haven't tested or read about the Repti Spa but guessing by the price it's probably a lower end MVB. I can't say for sure though as I have no data. If you want to use an MVB, I suggest using a MegaRay or an Arcadia bulb. Those have been tested and proven to be quite effective.

Well it's made in China,in Jiangsu province,at 7/F EXCELLENCE CENTURY CENTER TOWER 3, ROOM 709-710, SHENZHEN CHINA according to the US trademark documents filed by SPARKZOO.The other Chinese bulbs I've seen,the National Geographic and Exo Terra,aren't great,so I would avoid it.If you do buy one,please do a review of it.

I probably won't try it since both of you seem to think it isn't very good. Maybe that's why there isn't a lot of info in the Amazon listing. I've only looked at one of the ones that Cooper suggested above so far but that one is only a little more expensive than the ReptiSpa. My dragon is worth the $10 difference. I'd rather be sure it worked.

I might just get one of the bar UVBs and angle it so that it's hitting the whole enclosure. My Beardie seems to favor just the basking light. I move her to a spot that gets hit by both when I can, but I guess a light bar would be better anyway.

Do you mean the tube style UVB lights? Those are a good option. They should only run about 1/2 the length of the enclosure (Basking side) though so that there are areas with little UVB exposure so your dragon can self regulate as needed.

Yes, sorry. That's what I meant. I'm actually at work right now and was trying to type fast. Thanks for the tip! Right now my Beardie is in a 20gallon tank so I think I'm going to try making a wooden one with a screen top but I haven't figured out if I want to do a sliding door in front yet or just one piece of glass. I'll make sure when I get the new lighting for her future larger tank, I'll be sure to only cover half the enclosure on the basking side.

I'd go with either a sliding door or a drop down door on a bottom hinge so it's easy to access. When you have the dimensions of your tank set let me know and I'll be happy to help you find the right lighting for it.
