Reptile Vets in the UK

Hey everyone.

I realise that most of you guys are from America, but I'm struggling to find a vet who specialises in reptiles here in the UK. There are a worryingly small amount of herp vets in the UK, and as far as I have found, my nearest one is about 40 miles away. My beardie has really sloppy poop at the moment and its worrying me, so I want to get a faecal done, but I'm a student, and really quite poor, so driving 80 miles round trip and paying for the sample is going to cripple me.

Do any of the UK users of this board know of any vets in the north west of England? I have found one in lytham st annes, but no closer. I live near Preston.

Thanks guys.

Its a bit of a treck but there are a few here in leeds (i make the journey to Preston once a month to visit family) If not call Blackpool zoo, they have reptiles and may be able to help you out, i know of a vet in Bradford who services the locals zoos. It will cost that way though,

why dont you get a sample sent to pinmoore animal lab

http://www.palsvetlab.co.uk/

prices vary but they do all the testing and thn send you your results it states if it needs vet medication and if so you take the piece of paper to the vets for medication

Hi Leanne

I am quite near Preston too (Chorley). Not sure which side of Preston you are on but I have found an address for a place in Manchester you could try giving a call if it is easier for you to get to. I can't vouch for them as I have only just got my Beardie and haven't done any vet visits yet, they have been recommended though:

Ashleigh Veterinary Centre
Aidan Raftery and Gidona Goodman
Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic,
221 Upper Chorlton Road,
Manchester
M16 0DE
0161 881 6868

Also - in Bury/Bolton which may be better for you, these people have been recommended on another website:
http://www.penninevets.co.uk/
1 Bury Road, Tottington, Bury Tel 01204 88 66 55
175 Longsight, Harwood, Bolton Tel 01204 60 90 60

If my Beardie's eye doesn't clear up fully in the next couple of days I am probably going to take him - you'd be welcome to cadge a lift if you are struggling...albeit from a complete stranger I know. :)

Cheers
Luth

Hey guys,

thanks to all of you :)
Luthor, I actually live in Leyland would you believe! I've booked him in at the lytham one now, so I will let you know how they are. theyre 35 mins drive from here so its not too bad. I guess the bolton one would have been better but theyve made me pay a deposit of 20 quid at lytham! so I wont be cancelling that...consultation is 35 quid, but that includes the 20 quid deposit so I guess its not too bad. If the faecal tests are more than 35, then I am going to do it without the vet and send a sample in to the vet lab at cheshire, as theyre all singing all dancing faecal test is only 35.50 ( thanks sidneysix)

thanks again!

Hope it works out okay.

And if you wouldn't mind - please let me know how the vet in Lytham is & if you'd recommend them.

update:

so the one at lytham has cancelled my appointment! typical...the reptile vet isnt available :banghead: So, I rang the pennine vets at Bolton and Bury. ALL of their reptile vets are on holiday! boo. so I'm going to do the faecal myself with the PALS vet lab in Cheshire first, and then rebook a visit with pennine vets, as their bury clinic has 3 reptile vets with a dedicated vivarium room :)

Oh dear.

It's the first week of the school holidays I think - probably a few people off at the moment.

NIce to hear they have a dedicated viv room at Peninne. That's the one I was going to try as they did come highly recommended...and it's closest!

Hope it turns out okay

hey,

So I took Yoshi to Pennine vets in Bury. He had high levels of coccidia and ringworm eggs, lovely, so I have been given a small dose of meds for both.

The vet, Ian, was very nice and knew his stuff. They also have really reasonable prices. 30 quid for the consultation and the meds. I was fairly pleased with him and the surgery :)

I did go to them last week as Dewi's eye wasn't clearing up. I was told Ian wasn't in until Monday, but they did have another vet that saw reptiles. I asked "she does know what she's doing though?"

The secretary laughed and said that she did, but her knowledge wasn't quite as in-depth as Ians. I thought this was very open and honest.

I saw the girl and she was actually very good. The anti-biotics she gave are working well and she gave Dewi an "MOT", checked her mouth etc, clipped her nails (told me he was actually a she) and asked me about how my viv was set up. It was £35.

I'd happily recommend them.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
