I would like everyone to meet Reptics

His home is in Calgary AB Canada, three thermometers, one on the hot side, one on the cold side, and one to measure the actual temp of his substrate. He has one UV lamp, one heat lamp (75W) and a substrate heater. His diet consist of Crickets, Superworms as a snack, veggies.

I use real sandstone found here in Alberta to make a more realistic environment. One plastic plant.

How old is he. Babies should not be on sand. Also thoes types of thermoters are horrible they can sometimes be 20* off. Just go to walmart or a hardware store and get a probe temoter (indoor/outdoor one). Otherwise looks good your baby is cute. I would love some more close up picts. Also just to add do not feed superworms if he is under 15in long. He can get inpacted.

He is about 4 months old now. I just actually bought the superworms now. I heard everyone on here was feeding them. He has not had any yet, I have been giving him mealworms, are they ok?

Here are some closeup shots. As you can see he is shedding, usually every 1.5 weeks.

He is a cuttie. HOw long is he at 4 months old. That is still very young to put on sand. Mealworms are worse then superworms and unless he is a big baby (mine was 12in at 4 months) then he isnt large enough for supers (has to be 15in long) It is importatnt that the sands goes bye bye uintill he is 12-18 months old. Sweet Pea shed constantly. If you want to get virety for your baby Silkworms are excellent though slightly complicated to care for (heating requirements) butters are a good treat, and phonix worms are good also. You can also try roaches but be careful some states dont allow them.

Welcome to the forum. It was confusing for me to start out too.

He is only 6 inches long... I am guessing 4 months cause the Petland we got him at said he was 7 weeks and that was 2 months ago.
The Petland also said the sand would be good cause it would pass thru his digestive system. The sand we buy is apparently edible and is not suposed to harm them.

First off, he is so cute! Such a chubby little guy!

6" seems kind of small for 4 months... most babies are between 3" and 6" when they're born. But, it's all up to the care of the beardie so it's almost impossible to tell how old it is.

Most pet stores end up saying the same thing. They say what they're supposed to say, not what's actually true (I'm not saying this is EVERY petstore). No sand is edible and all sand can potentially harm them (even if it says that it is safe and won't cause impaction... that's WRONG). Especially if they're only 6" long, it's highly likely that he could get impacted which could ultimately lead to death. When I had my first beardie, I was unaware of this website and my 4" baby died a month after I got it from an impaction from sand. I'd hate to see that happen to anyone else.

Try getting repti-carpet or even shelf liner at wal-mart. It is very easy to clean. While you get the shelf liner you can get a probe themoter. The dial themoters are crap the probes or temp guns are the best (I have a temp gun but I used a probe for quite a while but I had a weird lizzard that either ate the cord or choked herself in it after tangeling up in it) What kind of UVB do you have some petstores (the same ones that said sand was good) will sell you a wrong light and lie about it. Also dont feed the mealworms and the superworms. The supers can be fed when he is larger but mealworms are horrible.

The setting up and everything is the hardest part. I swear I asked the breeder millions of questions about temps and makeing sure everything is alright. The people here are awsome though and always willing to help out.

Well, the sand is gone along with the dial thermos... The digital probe one i found al walyworld says that it is 105 F in there. Is that going to be warm enough or should I get a bigger bulb to heat it up more?

I think that Reptics is mad at me for taking his sand away..

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
