Hello everyone. I was at petsmart and pretty much did an impulse buy and got a baby beardie. I really didn't know anything at the time but I already had a ton of lighting setups from having different snakes and lizards over the years. The only thing I bought was the dragon and the zilla 40g (cause I looked on my phone and it said that was the size for an adult) and some food with repticarpet. Well I got home then started researching to make sure I had everything setup up correctly. The whole time Rex (short for t-rex) my beardie would just chill on my shoulder and hang out relaxed. It led me to this site. Everyday I take Rex out and let him on my shoulder while I do stuff around the house and I'll pet him a little and put him up. I'm used to lizards like Iguanas that are butt holes and try to run and bite and slap you with their tails. So now I really love bearded dragons and after seeing you guys pics and learning what a leather back and silkies are I want to get a leather back.

I have a Repticon event coming to my area soon, I have watched peoples videos on youtube of Repticon events and I don't see a lot of bearded dragons in them mostly snakes. Any here with Repticon expierence? I want to buy a a leather back beardie, if I go is there a good chance of having a selection of them to choose from? Should I expect to pay the same as the internet breeders sites? I just don't want to travel there and not see any leatherbacks or see like only one and it be top dollar. I would just like to get one from something like that because it would be a lot less stressfull that being mailed I would think.

I got my beardie from Repticon Atlanta earlier this month (Saw plenty of beardies there by the way). She was from Carolina Designer Dragons and I paid $100 for her plus a package that included calcium/d3 powder, vitamin powder, spray bottle with chlorhexidine, egg crates, tupperware container for crickets, cricket food, and a rock for her enclosure. I saw other cheaper beardie babies, but they just did not look as healthy (they were only $25). She has already been to the vet and was parasite-free and healthy. She is growing fast and is a great eater! I will be honest I have no idea what beardies cost in pet stores because I never wanted to get one there...

I got my baby at Repticon in NC, Raleigh, and he was part leatherback. I also bought from Carolina Designer Dragons, and she had beautiful and healthy leatherbacks and normals with bright eyes and colors. She is very easy to work with and has very reasonable prices for the exceptional quality of her little dragons! They are all nice and people oriented.

But yes, I saw plenty of beardies at Repticon. There should be quite the variety to choose from, and I recommend you check out Carolina Designer Dragons as an option.

Thanks for the replies, they have made me much more excited to go. I will definitely check out her site. I went to one site that had beautiful dragons, but everyone had been nipped up from over crowding? Idk but when I saw some of the stuff they were feeding them I knew I didn't want one from them.

If you go to the web site of you Repticon you plan to attend you may be able to find a list of vendors-to give you an idea of who might have what you're looking for. I just went to my first Repticon (Atlanta) earlier this month in July as well. As LailaBug said there were a lot of beardies, some healthier looking than others. Carolina Designer had some really nice ones-and seemed like nice people-but I don't remember if there were leatherbacks or not. I got my baby from Rio/Yellow Room Reptiles and I know they had leatherbacks. Which Repticon are you thinking of attending?

I'm gonna try to go to the one in Baton Rouge. I did see where they list the vendors right before your response. I'm excited to go and be able to have a little bit of a selection in person without buying online. I defenitely have the beardie bug. Lol I'm gonna get a leatherback and if prices a good there I am going to get two. So I'm hoping the are priced ok.

I just looked at the list of vendors for Baton Rouge and there seem to be a lot. I wish there were direct links to the vendor's web pages but you can always search for them to see if they have bearded dragons. I had scoped out breeders before the expo and had one in mind already. Hopefully there is a large selection and good prices. I've heard that you can get some deals at the actual expos though my dragon was priced pretty much what I would have expected if I had bought online. I think it depends. Can't wait to see what you find!

Yeah, I was surprised to see 3 or 4 are just dragon breeders. I have been looking at them online and kinda know the ball park prices and that's pretty much on what I'm expecting to pay. So if they are lower than that it will be a nice surprise.
