Ok, so I ordered 2 new Repti-Sun 10.0 bulbs and one new fixture for Twitch and Hermes. (Hermes already had the fixture thanks to Lizardgrrl!) When it all arrived my husband and I were reading the boxes for the Repti-Sun 10.0 and the 2-week old Repti-Glo 10.0 that we just bought but I told him we needed to replace because I read on here the Repti-Glo could be dangerous  and we want to be good beardie parents. The information on the boxes was exactly the same! Can anyone give us more info on the difference between the 2 bulbs and make us feel better about wasting money and not waiting the 6 months to get rid of the Repti-Glo? :book: Thanks!!!

Hi,

I understand your confusion. One thing that has become increasingly clear to me about reptile supplies is that BRAND (and type) really do matter. I've participated in threads where poor UVB bulbs/tubes seem to cause anything from lack of appetite, slow/stunted growth, lethargy, and eye issues... I've also had my own struggles with poor UVB lighting (not ReptiGlo, but the issues tend to be the same, to varying degrees).

Here is a recent thread that may be help. In particular, the comments by moderator, Tracie (Drache613) are very illuminating, as Tracie's comments usually are  :

viewtopic.php?f=34&t=101703&p=793076&hilit=ReptiGlo+10.0#p793076

Hope this is a help to you.

The best,
Em

I will have to agree with Embee. There have been MANY cases where the Repti-Glo has been proven harmful to beardies. The Repti-Sun is the way to go.

Thanks. I've read so many threads... but was so confused... and do feel that we did the right thing but just wish we did the right thing FIRST!!! Twitch has been under a UVB Zilla- it's about 12inches square, has 2 u-shaped tubes in it for months - right after we got her 12/1/08. Plus her UVA basking bulb. She's growing and flourishing but we still wanted to make sure she has the best home possible. Don't want her to have problems later! And MaryAnn gave us the fixture with a Repti-Sun 10.0 when we picked up Hermes but the bulb was burned out but she did tell us that it was probably past its 6 months anyway. So off Derrick went to the store and what they had was Repti-Glo so that's what he got. I'm glad we have good bulbs now, and looking forward to seeing the benefits. For the record, Hermes closes his eyes alot but has since we got him. He's very shy. And he's been through so much change! He's kind of like the patient saint, "You can look at me, and you can hold me but I know something is going to happen, so I'm going to put myself in a happy place" 8) I don't think it was the bulb, as we've only had him a few weeks. He's been showing stress marks a lot too. I have a great video of him arm waving (so cute!) but think he's been intimidated by the fact that he and Twitch (MUCH larger!) had tanks kitty-corner to each other and could see each other. I papered off the side of his tank that faces Twitch's on Friday eve (same day we changed the bulbs) and he has had white belly all day today! And he's wanted to run around the house the last few nights after his bath. So we're getting there. Twitch has a beautiful orange beard but her back colors do not show as much. Maybe the new bulb will help... :?: Hermes' appetite is finally picking up and we hope the correct lighting, as well as the fact that we have phoenix and silkworms, which he loves both, will help him grow to his potential. Thanks guys for your replies here as well as everywhere else!

You are clearly a devoted and caring beardie slave! Indeed, I totally understand your confusion. I came to bd.org initially because our beardie, who at the time we'd had for about 2 1/2 months, was struggling terribly under her Zilla Compact (the same unit you describe for Twitch, I believe). I'm so glad that Twitch hasn't had similar issues with the bulb. *whew* At any rate, in coming here, there were so many posts to be read about lack of appetite, slow growth, etc., and all seemed to trace back to poor UVB, and it was also clear that how and when these effects took place in the dragon, seemed to vary widely. At that point, my mission was clear. What a joy it was, when our dear dragon's demeanor changed within HOURS of switching to a ReptiSun tube (and now under her MVB [we were able to finally find a larger tank to house one], she is really taking off) so we couldn't be more thrilled, as we felt we'd almost lost her. The phoenix worms, I believe, were also wonderful in getting her back up and going. I hope Hermes fairs the same.

Twitch and Hermes sound just lovely. I hope you see lots of wonderful results with your new lighting! :D

The best
Em

OK 100% we are glad we got the Repti-Sun 10.0 as recommended by all here. We hadn't seen any bad effects from the lights we had, but since we got the new lights their colors are already showing more -especially Twitch- and Hermes has been running around a bit more. Course that could be because he's finally settling in... I can show before and after pics if anyone's interested, but Twitch is in the process of shedding her back right now so may be better to wait a few days.

Well, it sounds as if Hermes and Twitch have at the very least, perked up a bit then? Good news.

Thanks for the update and please, by all means provide pics when you can... we LOVE pics! :D

Thanks, Em! I definitely see a difference. Especially in Hermes' activity and Twitch's coloring. I'm glad at least that we only had Hermes under the Repti-Glo bulb for a few days. And even that Twitch was only under the Zilla for 3 months, hopefully no permanend damage *crossing fingers*... I will post before-and-after pics that show the change in color in Twitch, in a few days after she finishes shedding. In the meanwhile anyone wishing to see pics of Twitch and Hermes please check out their thread in Beardie Tales. :D

'Course Hermes had the right bulb when we adopted him, no comparison pics but his colors are definitely showing :D

Ah, Twitch and Hermes are looking great! :D There is nothing like a pic of beardie, full frontal face. It's a look that can't be matched!

Hermes, and that TAIL! (Our dragon had a tail nip as a hatchling and so she's never had the super long tail like some).

Thanks for sharing!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
