I agree spyder. It's all about balance. Herbal remedies/pick me ups, are no substitute for the vet. I am interested to see if reptaid works for my beardie, but if she shows signs of a downturn or even if there is no visible improvement I have every intention of a vet visit. I cannot get in to see the vet at the moment so instead of doing nothing while I wait this is something I can be doing. I hate just sitting and waiting :)

Well I'm interested and my curiosity is peaked. I'm familiar with some if not most of the ingredients as I use GSE when I make my cat food (my cats eat a raw chicken diet and that helps). I also like herbal remedies and have been using them for many years on family & myself and homeopathic remedies as well (use those on my cats & goats too).

Angie has had a clean bill of health but is still in that PHASE (puberty, semi-brumation while under a yr old, whatever) and if this can help even on a minimal dosage, I'd like to see if it helps her.

Guess it's kind of like Airborne but for our herp critters!

Sure reptaid is not a replacement of a vet visit. However after my last visit, I paid $150 for them to blindly treat my baby with baytril and panacur. They didn't even run a fecal. She came home looking worse than before. I consulted with the breeder I got her from and she suggested I quit the meds and start with reptaid. Best advice I've been given yet.

Sure, every case is different, but YOU know your beardie better than anyone. I wasn't satisfied with the vets approach so I chose another.

Thats why you get your vet identified and become comfortable with their knowledge prior to having a problem.

Another thing to keep in mind before using this product is that it hasn't been thoroughly tested and isn't FDA approved.

This is just my own personal experience with Reptaid. I know this won't work for everyone....but it DEFINITELY worked for me. This was my last resort before I took her to the vet. She hadn't being eating, moving much, or acting like her normal self (she stopped running away when I tried to get her. Haha) at all. Now she's almost back to her normal pig self and she tried to run away from me today. I know it's silly, but man, I was ecstatic when she did that! Haha! And this improvement was only after a few days of using the reptaid.
The only "bad" thing is that I've noticed she drinks way more water now.
I really can't say enough good things about it for helping my little dragon out though.
Hopefully I'm allowed to post pictures in this thread....

This was a picture of her the day I started the treatment (11/12)....looking not too happy and really thin.

And these are pictures from today(11/15)!! Her appetite and personality is back already! She's slowly getting her fat belly back and she's starting to shed.

A new idea has come about for treating dragons with Reptaid. We are now breeding collared Lizards which are an American reptile that very closely resembles the bearded dragon especially when they are all very young. The little young lizards are hard to treat but they take a bath in warm water a couple of times a week. So we just put 2 drops of Reptaid XL in the water. It is about 2 cups of water and we soak all three of the young lizards in there. They drink some of the water and they soak up the water through their skin. One of the babies just was not thriving like the other two. Nothing apparantly wrong, just not energetic like a baby lizard should be. Not really eating a lot like her buddies. But after a few baths with Reptaid Xl, they are all doing fine.

So you might try this on any of your baby dragons which are not keeping up with the bunch. Let us know how it works!

Ok, so I've spent the last couple days reading this thread trying to figure out what I'm doing with Tiamat. I've decided to try out reptaid and hopefully I see some improvement in the eating department. Right now he's active, alert and eating some but just not nearly what he should be. Just a few crix a feeding (dusted with rep-cal or herptivite) some kale is the only greens out of the kale, mustard greens, apple, and butternut squash i offer every day (along with a few other things off the list every couple days for variety) I just don't believe he's eating enough. I've heard it said here that proper husbandry is paired with reptaid and makes a difference. In this case I will let you know because I believe I have everything right for the last couple weeks (I got that straitened out when I first joined) :blob5:

I now have:
40 gallon breeder
150 watt white bulb w/ dimmer
Repti-Sun 10.0 (basking spot is <6" away)
Digital therm with probe at basking spot.
Basking temp: 103-105 (right now it's 105.3)
Cool side: 70-75 (right now 73.2)
Humidity: 29% (give or take a few)
Substrate: Tile
Lights on/off: 8am-8pm on timer

Feeding schedule:
9am
Monday - Friday: Rep-cal & gutloaded (Flunkers cricket food, kale, mustard greens) crickets; kale, mustard greens, butternut squash, apples.
Saturday - Sunday: Herptivite dusted & gutloaded crickets; wax worms (just a few) kale mustard greens, and whatever I have in the kitchen to offer that's on the list.

5pm
Monday - Friday: Crickets, salad.
Saturday - Sunday: Crickets, worms (not meal worms just any treats I can afford like blues or wax or butter) and salad with some variety.

If he doesn't show any interest in salad when it's offered I give him some squash/sweet potato/chicken babyfood that I mix all together and mix some calcium in. He seems to like that.

All food is removed at night.

Well that is my set up hope it sounds good. I'll let you know how things go, and I'm going to the vet with him I think the day after Xmas. (I can't make it up before then unfortunately the vet I want to take him to is a vet that lovess BD's!! I'd rather go to a specialist than go somewhere that eats my money and doesn't know what's wrong.) I will be getting a fecal on him that day and will let you guys know what it looks like!

Thanks to everyone for their time in posting on here. I hope I have good news to bring!!

Got my reptaid in today and gave Tiamat his first dose...let me tell you, he has been dark colored with dark stress marks all week. By 8 pm...you can BARELY see his stress marks, and he chased down two crix and ate a couple supers...not much but SOMETHING :D

That's only with the FIRST dose!!! OMG I hope to see further improvement but it looks hopeful!!! Thank you for a very speedy delivery as well...I ordered on thursday and got it Monday-today :) I'll keep you posted and while I don't have extra money for fecals before and after I will get a fecal after to see what his counts are. Thanks guys!

I know Reptaid isn't FDA approved, but I don't usually trust something just because it's FDA approved. I've seen so many drugs that were FDA approved that were withdrawn after 4 (+/-) years later because they caused problems. I'm one that tends to trust natural remedies before drugs, as all drugs have side effects.

frill dragon was diagnosed with giardia. after 5 day treatment of flagyl giardia is gone but he still has ALOT of coccidia in his fecal smear. he is eating but not passing fecal. i started him 2 days ago on reptaid and his apatite seems stronger. before he was just eating every few days, but today he actually ate infront of me. attacked the cricket as soon as i dropped it in.

giardia can cause 2ndary infection since it causes such harsh diareah, and coccidia can also cause irritation and inflamation in the gutt. i was given baytril for him, but i HATE using it because it kills their appetite and doesnt always rid of bacteria in their body, also leaving them quite dehydrated.

tomorrow is day 3, i'm bringing images of fecal exam to vet to talk to him about everything.

hopping reptaid help rid of the coccidia, as well as reduce risk of infection from inflamation from giardia+coccidia

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
