Renovation ideas.

Hey everyone!


As I am back home now that I have graduated college, I want to redo Spyke's viv. Unfortunately while I was gone, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer (we also got cats, but that's not so unfortunate and has actually been a huge help with mom). With this being the case the care of Spyke while I was away was not as tip top as would have liked. He was still fed and given water but the care of his terrarium took a definite hit. Despite my lengthy letter about how to care for him, my dad made some rookie beardie mistakes. He bought that vita-cal sand substrate crap as he felt that it was easier to clean than the green reptile carpet I had him on. No worries I have scraped all of that and put in tile which IMO is the easiest to clean and won't make him sick. But in addition to the change in substrate, my dad also never cleaned his various logs and food dishes. So I threw them out and have been using plates temporarily because I've decided to give Spyke a fun update to his home (aka completely renovate it) and would like some suggestions as to what to get for him/it. I've been surfing around here and decided that I definitely want to get him a hammock of some sort as he had grown out of the one I had previously had for him. I also want to get things for him to climb on as he has an old snake tank that is approx. 100gal, 4 ft wide, 1 ft deep, and about 3 ft tall, so I have tons of space to work with and want him to have access to as much of it as possible. Keeping in mind that I am recently graduated/still a broke college student, any ides on what to get for him?


TL;DR I want to renovate/update Spyke's terrarium. Any suggestions on what to get/put in it?

The tank you have is a little skinny, but it's a nice height. How long is Spike? It would be worth upgrading the tank at some point down the road.

To make the most out of the height, T5 lights would be a good idea (about $70) they have more flexibility with positioning.

What is his health like? Consider your dragons abilities, especially if he hasn't been getting as much exercise or diesnt have good coordination. Depending on how good a climber he is might limit your furniture options. He could get injured if he is clumsy and falls, especially with hard substrates.

It might actually be 1 1/2 feet, not positive (It seems quite roomy). His health is good. He is 6 and surprisingly active and is 1ft 5in. The vet said he is a little dehydrated, but that 1 or 2 baths a week and misting him in between would help with that as well as misting his greens. I had a log that he was constantly climbing on and around so his climbing ability is good. (Though he's been brumating a lot recently. I have a reptisun 10.0 currently but it recently went out so I'll have to order a new one.

Edit: I've also had him outside and out in my room where he is able to get more exercise since I've been home.
