Hi Guys,
I know this is a noob question but please oblige.
I read that regular flood bulbs are good for heating but what about UVA which our BD needs?
I am considering changing to Philips incandescent bulbs but wondering if heat and UVB alone is good enough.
Please advise, thank you

UVA is generated by bright white bulbs but, there are some out there that produce full spectrum light as well. Never use colored lights it distorts their vision.

Thank you for your reply.
Any brands and model you would recommend?

Have a good day!

Philips Par38 incandescent colorless floods are very good, they produce good white light and plenty of heat but no UVA (or UVB).

Best to avoid Neodymium coated floods (called basking) globes as they tend to very fragile and the emission of UVA decays over time.

Another option is an MVB (these are an all in one globe solution = heat + white light + UVA + UVB) but is very hard to optimize the basking spot temperature and the basking spot UVB flux simultaneously from one globe without compromising (usually going to a lower microwatts UVB / sqcm in order to get 40-43 degrees Celsius @ the basking spot).

In general the UVA and UVB will come from either :
>> a compact 26W UVB200 globes (or equiv rated 10%UVB) <== the best option in a SINGLE very small viv or rearing tub (100-150L say).
or
>> a T8 10-12%UVB tube
or
>> a T5HO 10-12%UVB tube <== these are your best option in a large viv .
These compacts , T8 and T5HO tubes are designed to produce UVA (usually 30%) and UVB (10-12% specified for beardies).

For most keepers the UVB tube lamp will be the source of UVA as well. If you can put the cage in an area with lots of natural light that will also be a good source of UVA. Just make sure it's not directly into the cage which can be an over heating risk

Unfortunately regular lamps don't give much UVA, just enough that some brands advertise them as UVA bulbs.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
