Recognition questions

These questions are more for anyone with more than one person in the house, with the viv in a major gathering room (but anyone can answer from your own experiences):

Do you think your BD recognizes who is in the room-as opposed to just recognizing that "someone" is in the room?
If so, do you think it's more by the sound of the person's voice or their looks?

I ask because we have had Rin for almost 8 weeks now, and he tilts his head often when he hears my voice. But, it might also be because I use a higher pitched voice when I talk to him, so it might be from the higher pitch. I am also the one who bathes him, feeds him and pays the most attention to him.
Rin's viv is against the wall, kitty corner to the TV, in the family room, where we gather most nights. So, he gets a lot of attention gets a lot of stimulation from the TV and people being around him.
My 9 year old daughter pays the next amount of attention to him, followed by my husband, but we all pay attention to him, and sit by his viv at various times, and take him out to sit with him.
Tonight I had him out, and he was on the top of the couch where he will stay for hours if I let him, looking out into the backyard. My daughter came into the room, and sat in the opposite couch. He cocked his head, started looking from side to side, which, as we all know, they do when they are thinking of their next plan of action, and jumped down to the couch cushion and to the floor, then ran toward her as if he wanted to see her, but the viv was in his view so he ran to the viv. It was really as if he wanted to say hi to her. And this was after being contented to sit above the couch for a good half hour, watching things move in the wind outside.

I'm curious as to what others have experienced with their BD seeming to know who is who, and if it will become more precise as he gets older, and we are around him more often. I'd especially love to hear from others who have had their BD for 2 or more years, with more than one person in the house, with the viv in a major room of the house.

Mine seem to know the difference, but it's hard to tell if that's recognition or just my mannerisms as a keeper. When I'm in the enclosure feeding or whatever, he will pop onto my arm or come look at what I'm doing. When I'm away, the person who feeds for me gets little to no reaction. It is an interesting question, how much they can comprehend regarding individuals of another species. I know my monitor absolutely recognizes me over others, but they're a little more complex. Think my geckos couldn't care less ;)

I had a couple of interesting encounters with Rin tonight when I got home. My husband and my daughter were sitting in the dining room. The sequence of places in our house is….Family room (Where the viv is) then straight across from that is the informal dining room (small), then the kitchen, with a sitting bar between the dining table and the kitchen. He can clearly see to the kitchen from his perch. I was in the kitchen, and my daughter and husband were sitting at the dining table. When he noticed me in the kitchen, he tilted his head and his whole body leaned toward the kitchen, so much so that his front leg was off the perch. I had not fed him yet, and he knows Im the one that feeds him, and it was DINNER TIME for him. As soon as he heard my voice is when he started looking at me, and he would not stop looking at me as he balanced on his perch to stay on it. It was so cute.
I fed him, then a couple hours later, hubby decided to give him a bath because he's shedding, and quite honestly, I think hubby is noticing that he has grown attached to me, and hubby wants to share in that experience.
So, hubby was giving him a bath for the first time…..if you go to my posts about Rinvereau, you will see that he ADORES his baths. He usually gets so relaxed that he falls asleep in them. He was relaxing with hubby, while hubby bathed him, and since it was his first time bathing him, I thought I would poke my head in the bathroom to see how it was going. I started talking to hubby and as soon as he heard my voice he jumped onto hubby's arm to try to get to me. Just a minute earlier he was starting to fall asleep in the tub, as he normally does. He did this twice, till I finally left the bathroom.
We've had this guy for about 7 weeks now, and I know now why people get so attached to their dragons. They may or may not bond with their people, but they sure do grow an attachment to them, and insist on being around the ones that give them the most attention/food/care. I don't know if he would miss me if I gave him to someone else or left, but I do know that he KNOWS where his supper comes from for now! It's almost similar to having a two year old, but the tantrums are just quiet black beards.

These are such funny reactions. I take it he does not like baths…. Rin has been known to actually wag the tip of his tail a couple of times because he absolutely adores his baths. I have pictures on his "Beardie Tales" forum, on almost every occasion, he falls asleep he gets so relaxed. I have to prop his head with a folded washcloth to ensure he does not tip it underwater. And usually when I try to take him out (without him being ready yet) he will either scoot back out of my hand and back into the water, or he has actually jumped from my hand back into the water because he was not done exploring yet.
How old is Ace? We've only had Rin for about 8 weeks, and we assume he is around 8 months old now. But each day is getting more and more fun with him recognizing his surroundings and his turf, both inside his viv and outside of it.

 thats a cute story about your litlle Rin. I adopted Ace as an adult, 5 years old, but i only adopted him last August. I dont think he likes baths cuz he had a bad experience with his old owners. Also i think im going to read your blog? On Rin.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
