Real Sunlight?

Hi was just wondering who takes there BD's out for some sun. Am trying to devise an enclosure for Bambam that he/she wont be able to exscape from and nothing will be able to get him. Someone suggested an altered bird cage enclosed with mesh..................as I know that the goodness of the sunlight disappears if it goes through glass/plactic. What do other use?

We are currently using a critter carrier to take our Spark outside. We hold the carrier and take the top off. Eventually we will have to upgrade the size of the carrier or put him on a leash, but for now its working pretty well. Our beardie is less than 12" and still pretty skittish so we aren't comfortable just carrying him outside. His colors really pop when he's in real sunlight.

At the moment I have used a plastic fish tank that I am also using for feeding and bathing as he is only still young as well. He is only 6 and a half inches. The tank has high sides and a clip on lid so I know he is safe but will not be getting any of the benifits of the sunlight through the plastic.

That's why we take the lid off of ours and let him bask in the sunlight directly. Can you take the lid off without risking the baby?

could you fashion a screen type top to place on top? Home Depot / Lowe's / Sears Hardware / Ace all sell rolls of fiberglass screen, relatively cheap.

We take Crash & Xena out (on leashes, they're adults) and their colors get so intense after even just 10 minutes, it amazing. Just watch out for birds -- one member recently had their beloved stolen by a hawk, it only took a second and they were heartbroken. If you are near an airport, beware of low planes too -- they could freak.

Think I will head off to the hardware store and see if I can get a mesh small enough that he can't get through even if I have to double it over. Is there any particular time length for them to get the most benifit out of the sun?

I take my Alf outside freqently and she loves it!!!!! She's a little skittish and likes to stay close to my neck, but other than that her colors pop and she's so curious, she turns her head to look at everything.

Real sunlight is so good for beardies; we have 5 and we have a beardie proofed balcony, so they each get at least an hour outside. They all feel better after being in the sun, and then don't need as many hours of UV in their tanks. All our dragons soak up the sun within minutes and are very warm, so they buzz about on the balcony, going into the sun, then shade, then sun until their time is up. We live near Vancouver, BC, Canada and don't always get good sunshine, but lately it's been every day. I find they have bigger appetites if they have time in the sun, too. Have fun :D :D :blob5: :blob8: :blob5:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
