Hi everyone..Scarlet had 23 eggs...we had 2 softly dented, and 1 yellow egg yolk looking...I've never seen one like that before, but we put it in the incubator anyway...

Does anyone know what the yellow looking one is ??? I'm sure it isn't good, but it's clear yellow on 3/4 of it, then clear yellowish white on 1/4 of the top..

ya a pic would help, but it sounds like its an egg that just has not developed the calcified outer covering...just make sure you keep giving her extra calcium during feedings througout the whole egg laying season

I gave her extra calcium on all her food..And am continuing to do so...I forgot to take pics before I put them in the incubator..But I will see if I can manage to get one..Just as soon as I got everything set up I was like well crud, I forgot to take pics to post..LOL, I took some of her laying them, but I don't think you can see the yellow one I was asking about..but let me check my camera to see if you can see that egg if, not I'll can get a pic of the yellow one..

I couldn't get a good clear shot, even after trying to adjust it..but I think you might be able to see what I mean...I was afraid to clean the dirt off since it looked the way it did..
Hope this helps..We have 2 dented ones, but we put them in the incubator anyway....

yeah thats an infertile egg, its no good i would just take it out of the incubator if its in there with the rest of the eggs

All of you have been so helpful..I don't know what we would have done if I hadn't found this forum..thank you all so much..I'm sure we will still have many questions...

The temp is staying around 84 ish and the humidity is around the same, give or take a few up, it never goes below that.... Is that alright or do we need to adjust anything :?:

yeah the temps are fine i like to keep my incubator between 84-86 degrees and my humidity around 70 percent but i think your humidity should be ok. as long as the eggs dont start molding or denting your incubator is fine

Hi everyone..It seems like my homemade incubator is doing ok, holding the temp and humidity..But I need to ask a question..Do I need to keep the stuff the eggs are in a little damp??? it seems kinda dry....If so how do I do it ???..Do I spray the eggs? just the stuff it's in ??? ..Cold or warm water ???

If it is drying out, you need to add water, a little at a time. Never spray the eggs, this can kill them. It looks like you use perlite ? I use vermiculite or a sand / vermic. mix. If the eggs begin to collapse in at any point, you definitely need to add water. It's true that they will collapse a bit right before hatching, but that's different than when they are only a few weeks old and not near hatching time. They look different whan about to hatch than when they become indented from dehydration. Someone had a recent thread with pics of eggs that were drying up .

Ok I can do that..We couldn't find vermiculite ANYWHERE..We went to Lowes, Home depot, several plant places and nothing..the people at home depot and Lowes didn't even know what I was talking about...We were so mad... So Perlite was the only thing we could find to use...I didn't know about using sand...
