Hi everyone, I have a year old rankins called Henry who a few weeks ago suddenly decided to stick more to the cooler area in the terrarium and who's appetite reduced. I suspected possible brumation but later his behavior returned to more or less normal but his appetite continued to decline.
Pooping had been normal up until the appetite decline, after that it still continued but less frequently and of a reduced volume which would be expected. As a precaution I took a poop sample to the exotic vets for testing which came back negative for parasites.
I had noticed some shedding on head and thought this might be affecting his appetite. His condition continued to worry me as although his weight was more or less static he seemed to "feel" a little bloated which I was concerned might be some kind of obstruction.
So, I booked an appointment with the local exotic pet vet and after an examination the vet asked me if he always breathed that way. He immediately suggested a x-ray and took both top and side views. He then showed me on the x-rays the lungs area and pointed out that this area should show black but was showing a portion which was slightly lighter in colour and which he thought was inflammation. His diagnosis was probable pneumonia although Henry has shown no other symptoms.
I have been prescribed Novadox (antibiotic) 0.1ml two times a day and Metacam (anti-inflammatory) 1 drop once per day.
He had been fairly active prior to the medication but today for example I don't think he's moved from his "basking spot" with half closed eyes.
As he shows almost zero interest in food at the moment I've been giving Flukers Reptaboost to try an stimulate his appetite but so far not much luck but at least he isn't loosing weight and I'm trying to keep him hydrated.
My one concern is the Metacam, it seemed a sensible prescription to alleviate the inflammation and perhaps make it easier for him and therefore encourage appetite but out of curiosity I searched on Google and found some very negative post regarding this medication and beardies.
Any comments, advice would be appreciated...Thanks
