Rankins dragon freaks out when held!!

Hello

I have two 1 year old female RANKINS Dragons (not bearded dragons) but very similar. One of the girls, Sami, broke or fractured her spinal cord in the middle of April 2015. Ever since then, when she runs or moves, her stomach tremors in the area of the fracture. Also, whenever I handle her during the day, she freaks out and gets the stomach tremors. During the day, she will run away from me and go crazy and just never wants to sit still. I assure you, I have had multiple dragons in the past and none have ever acted like this and she was very calm and I handled her all the time without any issues but after she fractured her spinal cord, she is just never easy or enjoyable to handle. I feel very bad not handling her often but I don't want her to jump off of something and hurt herself again or get lost. I want to know why she's so crazy after breaking her spine, please advise.

Hi Hailey....it sounds like that area still bothers her. It's either very uncomfortable , possibly even painful for her to get picked up. She may also associate being picked up with the terrible fall that caused her injury. Someone else may have suggestions.

I agree that it may be painful for her to be held. Have you gotten a recent x-ray to see how her spine is healing? I'd imagine it would take a while to repair itself.
