I only have a baby, but from all the books I have read, an adult Beardie's main diet staple needs to be vegetables. Also, a HIGH basking temp. is essential. Beardies need over 100 degrees on the warm end...which I doubt your house is. Sadly, the Petco you dealt with was sadly misinformed.

Have you tried varying his protein? Crickets, waxworms (he needs to gain weight), possibly Reptiworms? When our Aaliyah was not eating, we force fed her. It was stressful, but letting her starve was worse.

Sorry I haven't been on, my computer's been having major problems with the new windows updates.
So I've been praying about it, because my mom won't let me take him to a vet (too expensive; plus she thinks the lizard will die and the money will be wasted), and yes I'm a minor.
And guess what? I looked at Spot this morning and the swelling is gone in one eye and has lessened in the other. His eyes are open, his pupils are forward and moving again, and he can see just fine now.
I'm feeding him baby food I made myself for now, when I go to the store (probably tomorrow) I'm buying him waxworms, a heat light, that R10 UV light, calcium, and carnivore care.
Thank you so much for the advice and support everyone.

Okay, for the moment I'm making him tomato, carrot and water baby food, and feeding it to him with one of those baby medicine dropper/syringe things. He loves it, poor thing is so hungry.
He's rather energetic in the eating of the food. His eyes open then. He's turning yellow because of all the carrots though, haha. His eyes are only swelled sometimes now.
I don't know if I'm doing this right, but I'm feeding him 2 teaspoons (that's as much as he will eat) of that twice a day (which will soon be varied, all we have in the house that he can eat is tomatoes and carrots and some greens at the moment) and I have a heat lamp on him. Any other suggestions?
And another question, should I give him a warm bath after eating?

I would not give him the tomato. You can give him the carrot, thats fine, but he needs some protein. Try getting some turkey or chicken baby food, and I know my girl loves sweet potato, pea and banana baby food! You should also get some wax worms and give him some of that, they are nice and soft and have some fat in it. You should try to fatten him up! Other than that, great job!

I was told tomato was good for them- there isn't much in there anyhow. I was also told not to feed them turkey or chicken. Yeah, I'm getting him wax worms tomorrow.

Oh that's not good, tomato ISN"T good for them. Well I only fed him a tiny bit of tomato. That stupid site said beardies like tomato and it's good for them! Okay, definitely not feeding him that.

So glad for an improvement! Watch out for too much carrots, carrots contain a lot if sugar. Bummer about not being allowed to go to the vet though. Some vets will wave the payment or allow payment plans...you could always ask. If you have a reputable reptile shop in your area you could also perhaps ask if they would see your beardie for you. It never hurts to ask and I tend to think in most cases beardie owners tend to know as much if not more than a vet that sees 50 kinds of different pets. As for food I've been known to put insects and veggies in the blender to make reptile formula lol, there are some good recipies on here somewhere. Thanks for taking great care of your beardie though!

Sorry to hear about your sick beardie. Did you try putting drops of chicken or turkey baby food mixed with some squash baby food on his nose for him to lick off? If not, that would be the best thing to feed him right now, the meat baby food will help give him a boost and squash is high in nutrients and calcium. He also looks dehydrated so frequent baths as well as getting him to drink water by putting drops on his nose would also be a good idea.

Please keep us updated on him.

Hello,

That is great his eyes are looking better & he is opening them now. He must be feeling better then.
As suggested, the chicken or turkey baby food is great, they usually love the taste of it. I hope you were
able to find the Reptisun 10 tube bulb at the store. If not, try buying it online at www.petmountain.com
for a really good price most of the time.

I hope he continues to improve. Keep us posted on him.

He's bouncing between improvements and getting worse again. For a 2 days he was white with a black beard. But he's back to normal color now. And he's opening his eyes now (usually for a little while during and after he eats), and they're less swelled. But he's still not eating much.
I'm really worried because he hasn't pooped yet. All he'll eat is chicken, carrot, greens, or turkey baby food. And it's watered down at that.

Hello,

Thanks for the updates. His eyes are not as swollen then?
How much fluids are you giving him daily? Did you stop all use of supplementation right now until you can get this reversed or figure out what else is going on with him?
Did you change your UVB light out as well?
I am sorry that he still is not doing well. Can you get him to the vet?

Hey everyone.
So I did what all of you said, minus the vet visit, couldn't convince my parents for that one, and fed him protein and everything.
I knew he was having a problem pooping, but I didn't know what I could do about it and no professionals really seemed to know either.
And he died last night because of that problem. Kinda like 2lizard's thread. Poor thing died in the middle of the night after I had managed to feed him some protein and baby food.
My dear Spot is gone. Thank you for all your help while he was sick, it probably made his final days a little better.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
