QUICK! Questions for first vet visit.

My baby bearded dragon has her first vet visit in about 30 minutes. I suspect a fungal infection, so I know that I should have a culture screening done. I am also going to see if they will do a fecal test to check for parasites. Is there any other general things that I should ask for them to check out to make sure my dragon is all healthy? Thanks!

Ask for a wellness check, where they check all internal organs by feel, check her mouth. Why do you think she has a fungal infection? If that's what you feel, then what's needed is a biopsy, not a culture and a fecal is a great idea, do you have a fresh poop? Just wrap it in tin foil, then a baggy to take it in. Hope I got to you in time!

I actually got the time wrong, not leaving for another hour! But yeah, this picture is why I suspect it's fungal:

I would love your opinion on whether you think that is fungal or not. I applied Lamisil last night and I must say I think it actually helped a little bit over night. Still worried about that, though.

Well, I think it might be yellow fungus, which a fatal disease, but I'm not sure. You're going to need a biopsy to make sure, not a culture. A biopsy means they take tiny bits and then those bits are cultured for different fungi. So that's what you need to do. If your vet says bacterial insist on a biopsy first. When Titan showed that kind of thing, my vet thought it was bacterial because when I got him from the pet shop, where he'd been abandoned, his left side of his face had been burned. So we put him on antibiotics and it got worse, that's when I got the biopsy done. So please get that done first, it's expensive but worth it. If it comes back as yellow fungus, contact me right away, I'll tell you what meds to take and how to take care of your little one, k? Titan did pass away, poor sweetie. I'm hoping it's not yellow fungus, though.

Good luck, keep me updated, k? Don't even have your little one take any meds, even if he has parasties from the poop, until the biopsy comes back, k?

If I'd know what I know now, maybe Titan would have lived longer.

Thanks and good luck!
I am quite furious with the vet visit, I will surely never be going there again. We waited in the lobby for 40 minutes, and once we got in they had a quick look, said she thinks it's just a weird shed, said some nonsense about how if the skin under isn't harmed with it, then she'll be fine. As she said this, she was holding her and waving her arms around like a lunatic. She then said that I shouldn't be confused, and that she wasn't a reptile specialist but she went to a few classes in school for it. I paid $55 ****ing dollars for that nonsense and she wasn't even a herpetologist, when on the phone I was told she was a reptile specialist. NONSENSE

OMG, that is terrible, where do you live, there's a big data base on a site that I belong to and I can look up reptile vets in your area, if you want. I'm so sorry you went through that, that person is despicable for lying about being a reptile specialist. If you lived close to me I'd send you to my vet, I've been seeing her with my beardies for 9 years. So let me know, k? If you don't want to publish your area, just PM me.

Hello, would you mind looking up a vet for me as well? I have been trying to find a new vet for quite a while. I live near Sioux Falls, SD. Thanks!

In addition to Deb's database, you may want to try contacting this group to see if they have any personal experience with local vets. http://www.siouxfallsherpsociety.org/

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
