Quick question...

I've read the article on Brumation, but my Little Foot doesn't fit much of that criteria.. He's a sub adult(9" head to tail) Red Hypo Trans, my husband and I have had him for about 3 months, got him from a local breeder. Some of the things he does that make me think he's possibly going into Brumation is he gets pretty crappy with my husband when he tries to pick him up to feed him, we feed him in a separate container. He does eat, he's cut back from 2x a day feeding to 1x with about 6 Dubai roaches covered in Calcium with D3. But he has no problem when I pick him up, he actually runs to my hand and runs up my arm and lays down. I've also noticed he will take naps, but it's not on his cool side, or under his hide. It's off to the side of his basking spot. He's very easily woken up, if you just walk past him, he opens his eyes, and pops his head right up. He's very active after we get done with his feedings, runs all over his tank, and usually poops what I'm guessing is the yesterday's food. He wakes up when his lights come on, and is asleep right when they turn off(if he's awake when they go off). Could it just be a weird brumation, or could he be trying to tell me something's wrong?

Tank: 55 gallon
Lights: T5 & 100 Watt Basking
Food: Dubai Roaches covered in D3 and Calcium, greens offered daily(rarely ate though)
Subtrate: Warm side- Brown Reptile Carpet, Cool Side- paper towels
Humidity: 20-30%
Basking: 98*F
Cool Side: 80*F

Nothing's changed since we got him.

Dubai's are kept in a 10 gallon, fed carrots and random stems from greens we feed Little Foot.

Thank you in advance!

None of this sounds like unusual behavior to me, to be honest...

I do think he should be fed more then that, though. At 9 inches he should be growing rapidly right now, so he'll need a lot of food to do so. We have had Gary for 3 1/2 months and he has grown from around 6-7 inches to almost 16 inches. We feed him a variety of dubia roaches, crickets, and superworms 2-3 times a day (the superworms being a treat). We also feed the feeders carrots most of the time. If we were to only feed him one time in a day I feel he would be very hungry most of the day. Just my opinion though :)

We've e tried feeding him twice a day, but he won't eat at the second feeding.. We'll feed him when we wake up(around 10, his lights have been on for 3 hours) then try again at 5(3 hours before lights go out) but he'll just let them crawl all over him, and just lay down. We've tried a variety of food, but he won't eat anything but the Dubai, everything else, he'll spit right back out.

Hello,

Which T5 brand of tube are you using, the Reptisun or the Arcadia?
What type of thermometer are you using to measure the temperatures for him?
I would say to try & bump up his basking temperatures slightly, to a range of 95-105 or 110 max to see if that helps out. Does he seem to be digesting pretty well, overall?
If he is just 9 inches, he is too young yet for brumation though.

Its the Reptisun. I'm using one the digital thermometer. I've attempted to up his heat before, and that causes him to not eat all together. He digest fairly well, has a bowel movement every other day.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
