QUICK QUESTION...

ok, so there are rlly no vets worth a crap around me that sees reptiles... Ive had Dobby for a little over 3 weeks, he acts fine, usually eats rlly well (he just had a full body shed in a day, so didnt eat too well yesterday) But I figured I should get his 1st fecal done. So the ONLY vet that sees exotics in my area is actually in my town...BUT I read a rlly bad review on one of the vets there pertaining to a dog who they wrongly didnt diagnose with a respitory infection.. then messed up the stitches when that dog was nuetered. So.. maybe itll be a different vet? (like one sees regular pets, the other sees exotics?) The lady on the phone said I wouldnt have to bring Dobby in...just to bring some fresh poo, and they could do it in 15-20 minutes for $18.... SO, question is What do I do? Would them being a crappy dog vet mean they cant look at poo and see parasites if he has them?

I would go ahead and let them do the fecal. If you have any concerns on how they interpret the data or if/what the prescribe, you can always post it up here and we can either help reassure you, or make corrections to what the vet prescribed.

Will do... I just didnt wanna get it done, them be wrong, and something happening to him... SO I take it when he poos, I need to put it in a baggy? and what put it in the fridge til I get it there? I wont be able to go there til probably about 330-ish...and dobbys due to go potty at any time now

First, I wouldn't judge them from one bad review. There are 3 sides to every story and it could've been an odd situation. Multiple bad reviews are a different story

Second, I wouldn't trust a vet that will prescribe any medication for any of pets without giving them an exam. I've worked as a small animal vet tech for 10 years, and when people would bring in a stool sample for a pet we never saw or hadn't seen in over a year, we would tell them we would run the fecal but if anything new needs to be prescribed we need to do an exam first. This was to be sure the pet was healthy.

Just my opinion though. Hope this helps!

And yes, put it in a sealed baggie. It doesn't need to be refrigerated, but it does need to be soft. (Soft as in not an old, crusty sample)

Well, Ive never hard anything good about this vet.. and that was an online review id read, and then I seen something mentioning that same vet that was also negative, I guess one of thee vets there either worked at another clinic before or bounces between them or idk what. And idk about them prescribing meds, she just said they cold run the fecal without me having to bring him in. IF anything shows up (and I hope it doesnt) Ill be on here asking what to do, and cant I buy the meds from beardeddragon.co?

Hmmm....I was told to refridgerate the poo if its gong to be more than a couple hours before you get it to the vet????????????

I agree with Kelly. My vet recommends that it be refrigerated.

I took a sample yesterday, luckily Dobby didn't go until just after 3 pm, so it was a very fresh one..lol. she said she found 6 (total) coccidia eggs? like she'd see one...move a few frames, see another, etc etc. She said since hes so little and its not a lot were not going to treat them, maybe it'll clear up on its own?? I'm really confused. Is there anything I could be doing? I don't want to wait and him end up sick.. I read that coccidia is normally in their digestive tracts at low numbers? so should I be worried? I posted in 'dealing with infectious diseases' but no one has commented on it yet
