Hey guys I have owned my beardie for 3 years now, named Mojo. I live in the US but was gone for the last 6 months down in New Zealand. I left Mojo in the care of a friend and when I got back the first thing I did was bring him and his tank (40 gallon breeder) home. I noticed he is definitely slimmer but nothing that looks horrible and that he is walking on his front right foot weirdly. I took him to a local pet store and they said it looked like the early stages of MBD. They then sold me a zoo med powersun 160 watt bulb and a 24 inch reptisun tube light (I got a good discount cause we're friends haha). From what I have read it seems like some people have had some serious issues with powersuns that have caused deaths. I know the guys at the pet store pretty well and they are very intelligent when it comes to beardies so I hold their opinion highly but those stories have kind of spooked me. I plan on putting the powersun on the basking side of the tank with the tube light stretching across the top (obviously). In the basking area is a nice hunk of drift wood that is 9 inches away from the screen where the powersun will be and then there is a rock next to it that is flat on the ground so it is 16 inches away from the light. Will Mojo be okay with that set up? Any information and input is greatly appreciated.
I do dust his crickets and vegetables with calcium powder as well.
Also, they sold me the 160 watt because currently I am using150 watt basking bulb that only gets the basking area up to around 90F.
