Ok so I used to have two bearded dragons, unfortunately Crupi, the one I adopted years ago died of unkown causes. I had adopted him full grown and had him for a number of years. I have two vivs that are stackable, a 4x2x2 on the bottom and one that's just a little smaller on top where Bella is. Crupi used to have the larger, bottom viv. The signs of his death were very odd as in the day before he died, he was acting fine, lively, and was not leghargic at all and always alert in the day. I did not think too much was wrong as he had just passed a bowel and eaten some hormworms and butterworns.. Anyways by 9pm the next night his body was very mushy and he couldn't hold his head up or anything, I tried to get him to an emergency vet, but since I was at school the whole day I came home too late and by the time I found a 24 hr exotic vet and had my parents agree to help with the bill, he was dead. It was all very fast and shocking. When I got home I could tell something was not right with him but within an hour I could see that he was completely unresponsive and not breathing. Its been very hard. since then....
Anyways, since Crupi was larger than bella is, I always had him the 4x2x2 tank on the bottom with a 36 in reptisun and a 36 in naturesun on a exoterra dimming kit. I have the same setup in my 38x18x18 on top for bella but with 24 inch bulbs. I also have fashioned some reflectors for the Reptisun 10.0's. Bella is just coming out of brumation and glass dancing a lot, so I figured she could use some extra room. One odd thing, about two weeks before Crupi's death I replaced the reptisun 10.0's on both tanks, at the same time. Bella's has been fine, so I'm not sure if I just got a bad bulb and he all of the sudden died after 2 weeks of no UVB?
So if I wanted to give bella that extra room and give her a viv with much more room, what all should I do besides the obvious(sanitizing all the stones and tile by using bleach and water or a natural cleaner and baking them in the oven that were in crupi's tank that I would Re-use from bellas original tank, change and clean the repticarpet in bella's tank)? Do you think I should get a new reptisun 10.0 UVB or that new acadia 12% I just saw was now available in north america? The larger tank is a little bit taller so I could give bella more space since. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks for reading this, here are some pics..
