Question regarding Eye Infections/Yellow Fungus

Hey every one,

My lil guy Jimmy had an eye infection when I bought him from a small local pet store. We didn't notice it until we got home, and I couldn't just "return" him because of that. He's not just a pair of shoes or a pair of pants to return. He's a little dude with feelings who I fell for even in the pet store. I haven't had the cash to get him to a vet yet, so I've been treating it with saline drops since. In the beginning it got really bad that's when I started the Saline drops. It looked 100X better within 24 hours, but it still doesn't look quite right. I'm still giving him saline, but not as often as I was. He's eating and pooping regularly, his heating and lights are bang on, he gets 2-3 baths per week, all his vitamins, etc. However, I've noticed that around the bad eye, it looks yellower than the rest of his body. Especially in comparison to the other eye. Could he also have yellow fungus? Or could the saline drops have caused yellow fungus? What causes yellow fungus? Ahhh. I guess I could go google it myself, I'm just worried about the little guy as I cannot afford to take him to the RIP off vet we have in town. And apparently he's the ONLY one in town who deals with reptiles........... Is there anything I can do for him or get him that doesn't require a vet? I know he needs some type of Antibacterial eye drops in order to clear up the infection. I don't think saline alone is going to cure it as it hasn't been cured yet and I've had him almost 3 weeks.

Any suggestions, advice, etc would be super helpful. Thank you every one! Here's a picture of his good eye VS bad eye from last night (Some of you may remember the post I did regarding his eye in the Beardie ER board I think it was, I posted LOTS of pictures of his eye thru out the first week or so. )

Hi there....I can see just a slight difference in his eyes, but pics don't always show the true color as it looks " in person ". You can use unpasteurized honey in + around the eye....just add a little warm water to thin it out [ about 1 part honey, 3 parts water ] and dab it on twice a day with a Q-tip. It's as good or better many times as medicine and does no harm.

Ohh yea! I remember you telling me this on my original eye post! I think that was you! I will get some of that tomorrow when I stop by the grocery store. Just Unpasteurized Honey? Does it need to be raw or organic or anything? And it can go directly in the eye?

What's your thoughts on a polysporin based drop for pink eye and other eye infections? Do you know if those would hurt him more than help? I've used them myself for eye infections and they worked great. I also had a Pet store lady tell me I could use regular polysporin oinment :? I wasn't too convinced, but I thought maybe the eye drop version might be okay. Do you know if it would be similar to what a vet would use?

Raw honey or unpasteurized [ but not the " creamy " type]....like from a health food store . I've used only honey on my dragons when there were any eye problems and they both cleared up beautifully + quickly. So I have no opinion on the eye drops since I've never used them. A chameleon breeder that was an acquaintance of mine a few years ago had a beagle with a stubborn eye infection that wouldn't clear up with the vet prescribed eye drops, when I told him about honey he tried it and emailed me 2 -3 days later and said that it worked that quickly. I think it's the best thing out there for many types of infections and as a wound dressing. Google it and you can find plenty of good info on it. [ Raw honey as medicine...." honey for eye infection " , etc. ]

Hey you, I'm on my way up to the grocery store. I've tried looking for Unpasteurized Honey but no luck. Can I use "Bee Maid 100% Pure Premium White Liquid Honey" just the same? Or any 100% pure honey?

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
