Have a fresh juvenile beardie living in a 20G long right now. When he/she grows, I want to have a larger home sorted out. I've got most of the details sorted out except, I plan to use plywood (cost) for all walls except the front (plexiglass) and paint it (white would help reflect heat/light more efficiently, but might go with a natural camo like I did for my airsoft M4). The question I have is: is there a particular type of paint that, when FULLY cured (weeks, maybe months before he moves in), you know to be safe? I know most paints are highly toxic, and that's to HUMANS (friend's dad passed away a few years back. He was an auto body guy who got into the trade before the insane health risks were as well known and/or regulated).
Off topic, I find it funny that I am caring better for my new beardie with a few days of google knowledge than... basically every craigslist ad I've seen. Always sand, sometimes coil UVB bulbs, and every now and then I see one with no UVB at all. I really want to rescue at least one of them (typically 2 year adults being sold for about $100 including a 55g with lid, basking lights and something for it to bask on) but feel I should get my young beardie to adulthood first. My favorite one (not sure if improper?): being that this is southern Illinois, I found one for sale that had... straw as a substrate (most likely farmer or former farmer). Not sure how good or bad that would be. The kicker was he wanted money or would trade for a .22 rifle or 12ga shotgun... I just can't envision that happening. Trade a lizard for a gun?
