I have a baby/juvie beardy that I am guessing is approximately 7 weeks old, I know at that age they are supposed to eat almost only crickets (or some other form of protein) 2-3 times per day but because of my personal work schedule, (I work from 2pm to about midnight usually 5 or 6 days a week) I find it really hard to give him crickets more than once a day. I try to give him as many as he can eat that one mealtime (usually about 6-10 depending on the day and his mood at the time) and I always try to have a bowl of fresh greens (usually dandelion, Collard greens and then a mix of some other veggies/fruits (ie. Carrot, red peppers, strawberries) but my primary concern is that he isn't getting enough crickets on a daily basis.
If this is the case does anyone have a solution that might help me make sure that he is eating enough? He is pretty picky and will rarely eat any greens unless it's the first thing i give him during the day and even then only a few bites of something before he just gives me a look like "really?"
I have thought about leaving crickets in his terrarium with him but the idea of just letting them roam around in there makes me a bit uneasy. I am just not sure with my schedule how to make sure that he is eating enough because I know at this age the proper nutrition is really important and can impact them later in life if they don't get the right mix of foods.
Thanks in advance for all your help!
