Question about UVB lighting.

So I have a 18" UVB Reptisun bulb sitting on top of the 40 gal. tank screen.

My Dragon is probably 8" - 10" away from it when she is basking. Is this close enough?

Also Evidently the backing light is pretty warm (100w) because my dragon will not sit directly under it but more to the side of it.

Is that a problem?

It shouldn't be a problem. I suggest getting a digital thermometer w/ probe. I use the Accurite digital for about $12 (it was, anyway) at Walmart. This one gives you 2 temp readings and a humidity reading. This will tell you if his basking spot is getting too hot for him. If you can get the reptisun 10 tube to sit under the screen is better. There are several ways to do that.

6" to 8" would be better, especially since you have a screen between your dragon and the uvb bulb.
