Question about Syringe

Okay, time to start the baby food regimen. Stage 1 chicken or turkey for protein; green beans, peas, squash, and sweet potato for veggies. Mix a meat with a veg., thin with water, and serve via syringe. I also like to make a slurry with collard and mustard greens, squash, and a little water. I feed this directly, or use it cold from the fridg to cool down and thin the baby food. Strain the slurry if you can.

I mix the food in a medicine cup like from cough medicine after heating, and store the unused baby food and slurry in the fridg in those pyrex dishes with a plastic top. The pyrex is good for heating.

Put his regular supplements in the single serving mix. Feed 3x per day. Offer water after eating.

There are are also supplements like Repti-boost that are supposed to stimulate their appetite, along with other goodies for health.

You are a good Mommy! Many of us have had to resort to the baby food thing when ours quit eating for whatever reason. He will start eating normally eventually. :D

Hey Im sad to inform everyone that Hennessy still wont eat, and tries to bite & tail whip me when I try to feed him via syringe. He is loosing weight fast, the very top of his tail is getting boney, and the fat on his legs is quickly diminishing. I've been crying all morning, at a complete loss at what to do. I can't loose him, hes my baby boy. Still no poop today, stuck him in with the crickets, and he wouldn't even open his eyes. Tried feeding him with the syringe, he tried to bite me, WHICH HE NEVER DOES.

I just want to slam my head into a wall because this is so frustrating. :banghead:

Just don't know what to do. He will NOT bask at ALL. He's turning black in his cage and is cold to the touch. When I move him over to his basking log he just runs and hides.

Glad you made an appointment. That was my next suggestion. Do make sure he stays hydrated by giving him baths. Don't give up on the syringe. Let us know what the vet says.

***UPDATE***

Took Hennessy to the vet. Hes going to be staying overnight, so they can try and get a poop sample. They want to check for pinworm especially. But they also want to do a blood sample, which we couldn't afford. So in two weeks we will be taking him back in to get a blood test. That's the earliest we can afford it. The vet said it could either be parasites, a calcium overload or not enough uva. He said he thinks it could be all of the above, but mostly it could be just to much calcium with not enough uva/uvb, basically his body can't digest the calcium. So when I pick him up tomorrow, I will do another update. Until then, I'll pace and hope its nothing horrible.

Thanks for the update. My brain is a little feeble right now. Don't their urates get hard if they have too much calcium? Have Hennessey's urates been hard?

Still no news on whats wrong with him, but they said he was doing much better!! The doctor will call me in the AM so we can pick him up, and from there we will discuss that. Will update again when he returns home. :)

**UPDATE**

Just got home from the vet. :) :) :) When I picked Hennessy up, he literally jumped out of the vets arms into me. I think he missed me ;)

So the diagnosis the vet gave me was pinworms/roundworms. He treated him with (1) dose of PANACUR. And sent me home with a second dose to give him in two weeks.

The vet also wants to do a follow up four weeks from now to check for the worms and/or anything else.

The vets findings :

Area: General Assessment: Finding: Over condition needs improvement.

Area: Abdomen: Finding: Abnormal appetite

He weighs a whopping 1.17 lbs (0.53 kgs) and his body condition score on a one to five scale is a 3: Ideal; needs improvement.

He seems to be doing MUCH better, which makes this momma happy :)

The vet said that Hennessy did NOT like the medicine part (where he had to use the syringe and stick it in his mouth.) and that he had a VERY strong grip. :) That's my boy :)

When we came home, we received the UVB's for his cage, so we immediately set them up, mounted them INSIDE of his cage so he can get the proper UVB rays :) Also, we deep cleaned his cage, and everything inside of it so now everything is SUPER clean. Hopefully this may help Hennessy feel better. We also moved everything back to its original position in his cage, so it feels the same to him. Because before he started acting weird, we moved everything around in his cage, added new things in there, so now everything extra is out, and its back to the way it was to begin with. So maybe that will be a big part in him feeling better :)

Anyways, im off to spend time with my baby boy, seeing as he had a rough night last night at the vet. So I will update again when he starts to eat and poop normally :)

I'm sure Hennessey was overjoyed to see you! :D
Good news to hear that he is doing better!

So does the doc think that getting rid of the parasites will restore his condition to "ideal?" Will that improve his appetite? If I remember correctly, it should. Did he give you, or do you have on hand, any probiotics? This will ease his tummy during the medicine. I give probiotics to mine a few times a week just to keep their tummies happy. Probiotics restore the good gut flora, like yogurt does for us when we're taking antibiotics. Forgive me if you already know this.

That's a great idea to put his viv back like it was. Maybe he's OCD, like me. Lol
The new light should also do him a world of good.

I hope you and your little guy are having some wonderful snuggles.
Thanks for posting. I'll be waiting to hear of eating and poopers.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
