Question about Burmation.

Hello guys!!! how is everyone doing?... well as you probably noticed by the tittle, i have a question about burmation, my little Ace, has been in a state of burmation lately, he hides under his "Half Log" for the most part of the day, and sleeps a lot, i wake him up sometimes and encourage him to move around, after he moves around for a bit, he then gets hungry, i feed him a few crickets, then he basks for about an hour and a half or two hours, and then goes back to sleep, he is about a year old. he has not touched his veggies as much as he used to, but he does still take a few bite out of them.

My Question is, is it OK to wake him up, and encourage him to move around and eat?... he seems to be ok with it, i also take him into the "Real" Sun for a while each weekend, which he loves... once i wake him, he is WIDE AWAKE, but after about one or two hours, he goes right back to his hide and sleep...


in case you're wondering my enclosure set-up and diet here they are.

my enclosure set-up is as follows:
-40 Gal Tank
-18" Repti-Sun 10.0
-100W Basking Bulbs
-Coiled "Cool" Bulb (Just for Light)
-basking spot around 105 degrees
-cool side is around 79 degrees
-overall tank temp is at or around 85-90 degrees
-i use Slate Tile as substrate

what i feed him is as follows:
-Calcium Dusted Crickets 6 times a week
-Multi Vitamin Dusted Crickets 1 time a week
-Collard Greens, Turnip Greens, Mustard Greens, Butternut Squash dusted lightly with Calcium everyday.
-Occasionally i'll treat him to some Black or Blue Berries, Pears, Apples, Horn Worms, or Wax Worms.

Waking him up once in awhile is fine. He still gets excersize and his food that way, the only advice I can give is just to make sure he keeps going to the bathroom after eating. A lot of beardies in brumation will still eat but their bodies have shut down for the brumation so they don't *ahem* poo

If he's not going in his tank before he crashes again in the 1-2 hours of basking take him and give him a warm bath while running his belly, this will help him go.

thanks a million, he has been slowing down in going to bathroom, i am sure it is due to the burmation, he went from having a bowel movement every day or every other day, to every three days, but i usually give him a warm bath on the 3rd day and he has a nice large bowel movement afterwards...

**update**
he has really slowed down in his eating, and just wants to sleep all day now, if i move him around, he practically runs back under his hide and gets upset with me... every time he goes to his hide, he start digging into the tile, accommodates himself, and looks at me with a face like saying "Dude, seriously? leave me alone man..."

LOL sounds like a beardie in brumation!

Just let him do his own thing and try to make sure if he eats he goes to the bathroom, your main thing to do is to keep him hydrated during this time, if it's just by misting by that's fine.

thanks for the response, i'll make sure i keep him hydrated... and he gets enough alone time so he isn't bothered, it's just things like this freak me out... i have a Chaco Tortoise as well, and she sleeps for 6 months at a time every year, i've had her for 23 years, and it still freaks me out... she is usually loose in my back yard, so when she goes to sleep for 6 months i just put her in a room in my house and she doesn't move...
