Purchase from breeder or store?

Im looking around while i get everything i need before i get my new buddy. i've looked all over the web at different breeders and i live next to a couple stores that seem to be very good at what they do.. prehistoric pets in chino and amazon reptile in montclair (both in california).. i do know that amazon is know for shipping aroud the gloab.. what are your guys views on where to get your first bd?

I would go with the Breeder. You will get a better quality BD and you will not be supporting pet stores. I guess it depends if you want a special BD or just a regular. You will get a better BD and you will get to see the mother and father of the new baby. Good luck.

Breeder! One from the for sale section here! Cryptic, TND, Dragonhut, Bloodbank, Caliente, the list is long and all of the breeders who sell here seem to be reputable!

i prefer breeder. When you buy from a pet store you just encourage them to keep selling beardies. One thing I will say is this...don't go to a pet store and see a poor dragon who is miserable and then "rescue" him, unless he's free. All that does is make room for them to neglect another dragon.

I must agree with everyone else on Breeder...though I do have a couple I saved from the pet stores...an one of them required some special care when I brought her home.

With a breeder you will get a hatch date and know exactly what age your beardie is where when buying for the store you never know.(not knowing exact age seems to mess with many of us). Plus babies kept in the stores very long could possibly had there growth hindered by the maintenance feedings rather than optimal feedings....lack of proper UVB and temps...just a couple of the reasons off hand there are several more.

not all pet stores are bad, im a little defensive since i work in one. granted some pet stores really have no business keeping any sort of reptiles. but there are credible places to get beardies. i like LLL reptile. they're in Oceanside. and they seem to have a fair knowledge of what theyre doing. honestly if you're in the area, and have patience to wait a few months ( which is tough, cause they're so irresistible) you might investigate the reptile supers show that's going to be in the Pomona fairplex. but that's not until january 9-10. http://www.reptilesupershow.com but you can see first hand some very pretty morphs, and get good deals on viv, and accessories (i got my lights and my tank there for cheap.) :mrgreen:

I agree, breeder. My lps houses all there adults in one cage and make the baby dragons available soon after birth all caged together as well. Plus with the breeders I've seen on this board, you get some awesome fantastic color options.

Plus when you get a dragon from a breeder you know it's background. Usually you can see pictures of the parents which can help you decide which baby you want because it will help you know what they might look like when they're older.

I got mine from a pet store and even though it's turned out well if I was going to do it now I'd go with one of the breeders that's on here. They really don't get the best of care in pet stores and you have to wonder how much that's going to effect them as in setting them back before you even get started with them.

I was having this same debate... I was going to just go through a store because it would have been closer... However, now seeing hatchlings being sold, im not so sure. I think if you can trust your pet store then go for it... I however dont, so I will be going though a breeder...

I agree with sunshinessmile, if you trust your petstore go for it. 3 of mine came from a petstore, but my girlfriend worked there and was responsible for their care.
