Puff's Space

Hi Everybeardie!!! This is my thread where me 'n' mama can keep you all up to date about me. In case you haven't read mama's other posts, I am a 4 week old...well now 4 1/2 week old baby. Mama brought me home on Sunday so I'm still settling in around here. I had mama worried today cuz' I wouldn't eat my crickets but tonight mama redid how she feeds me, and I ate 3 of them. I know it isn't much, but it's a start and it made mama feel better. I did eat good yesterday and also Sunday evening. One of our new friends here told mama not to worry yet, that it's most likely just the stress from coming to my new home.
I'm really excited to be here at the forum, and I've made lots of friends already...
lets see...there's Tazzie and Spark, and Leela (although Leela says I'm still too little look at the pics of her hiney that she posts on the www) :wink: , and there's Zak and Wheezie(have you all seen Zak and Wheezie? Wow--they are so cool), and I know there is lots of friends here I haven't even met yet.
So...I have a couple questions...I've never owned a human before, and I think I got lots to learn about this making my human my slave, although i think I have a good start...but anyway...I just want to know...are all dragonslave humans weird? Like my mom today saw that I had made a big poo, and she was sooooooo excited and happy!! She even said, "yeah Puff...way to go!!" And then she scooped it up out of my viv!!! Now what do you all suppose she wanted with that?? and where is she keeping it?? And why was she so excited about it? Do human dragonslaves do this sort of thing all the time? I'm sure I will have lots more questions in the future about turning my human into a dragonslave...so I hope you don't all mind me asking questions...a little guy like me has to learn ya' know.
In other news...mama noticed I was really shedding today on my head, and thanks to another dragonslave here, mama knew to just gently rub my head...so she gave me a warm bath and did just that...rubbed my head, and the skin was pretty loose and just rubbed right off during my bath and ohhhh it felt so good. So I rewarded my mama with beautiful colors and markings under all that old skin. I hear ya' gotta reward them for behaviors that you want them to continue...I think it's called positive reinforcement. So we had a little photo shoot tonight and I really was posing for my mom...

Wow! What great pictures!! I really like the colors on your bodysuit! You look wonderful!

Puff, ask your Momma to check with Crickest or one of our other beardie moms/dads on the stuff on the bottom of your viv. My Mom, LizardKat is a new Beardie owner but she has read in many places that a "baby" beardie should be on paper towels or newspaper. You could have her post her question about "substrate" on the general area of the DB. I read that Baby Beardies can eat the substrate and get "impacted" and then get really sick.

Yep, Tazzie, mama is looking for any input on the bottom of my viv. She was gonna take the stuff out, but I, being the active little beardie that I am, and pretending sometimes that I have super powers, have jumped off my branch a few times, and mama is afraid now to take the stuff out, cuz' she is afraid I will jump and get hurted really bad on the hard floor of my viv...so now she isn't sure what to do. She is open to suggestions. The stuff that is in there now is very fine coconut fiber, and she has read that it will digest and pass through my system, but she isn't sure if she trusts that or not.
So-if anyone can help us out here, that would be great. Maybe she could put a pile of paper towels under my branch, or some fleece material??

Just a quick update from Puff's mama...

I just took all of the coconut fiber out of the viv and put in paper towels instead. I just put a pile of paper towels under Puff's branch, so if he tries to jump, hopefully his landing will be soft. I told him that instead of flying super powers, he needs to pretend that he has climbing super powers instead, so if you beardies could all encourage him in that, it would be great! thank you all for your help with my little guy. I really am going to go to bed now!!

Hey Puff! I like your pics; your new suit is really nice! My new suit is almost done, too. I love new clothes but getting them is not fun... My Mom also gently rubs my spots where the old clothes are coming off, except usually she uses a soft toothbrush! But, that's b/c I'm a bigger than you; I think the toothbrush might scare you. (It definitely scared me at first - I tried to bite it! But I like it now.)
I think all the Human Slaves are weird, too, but very useful and loving! From what I can tell, your Mama is becoming a very devoted Human Slave already! You learn quickly, Puff; positive reinforcement works very well! :wink:
Oh, I saw the picture of your shish you dragon. I have one like that, too; he is a cockapoo dragon. I don't like him though - he yells really loud and it scares me! :evil: But, my two cat-dragon brothers and little cat-dragon sister are pretty quiet, which is good, and they always want to hang out near me so I don't feel lonely. I have two Human Slaves-in-training, also; they are Mom's teenagers. They have weird string on their heads my Mom calls "hair". My human sisters' hair is so cool! Here is a pic of me having fun playing with it...(Mom had to take me off her b/c I tried to eat it, but I know better now)

Maybe the best thing to do for now would be Repti-Carpet? It's relatively easy to clean, and softer for crash-landings! I don't know if Puff will grow out of that jumping off from stuff phase or what; I never had a baby beardie. Leela is 3 years old, and takes many leaps-of-faith that get my heart pumping! She jumped off of my shoulder and onto the kitchen floor the other night, and it didn't seem to phase her one bit! But she is older and bigger - surely a 5ft jump is not safe for a baby!

Hi Everybeardie!!! mama is sooooo excited today cuz' I eated my crickets for her this morning!!!!!
The strangest thing happened though last night when I was sleeping. I found me a corner to cuddle up in, and I buried my nose into the tickly brown stuff...mama calls it coconut fiber...anyway I went to sleep. Then I had this dream that mama was making a beardie burrito...well...for my size it was really more like a taco...and in my dream I thought, "hey, what is she gonna do? Eat me like a taco?" Then in my dream I was being lifted up and floating around in the air. Strange dream!! anyway, when I woke up this morning, I wasn't buried in the tickly brown stuff anymore...I was wrapped up like a....you guessed it!...TACO in this very warm, soft thing. and I was lying on a bed of the same soft stuff piled up to make it really soft to lay on, and there was a dark cave over me that I was sleepin' in. When I looked out of the cave it was all white on the floor of my cave!! being that we live in Minnesota, I thought it must have snowed!!! But when i walked out of the cave thing, I realized it wasn't snow...it was just a very soft white carpet. mama says it isn't really a carpet though, just paper towels and she said being that I am just a baby, it would be safer for me.
anyway, I came out and crawled up my branch and got all warmed up, then mama gave me crickets from the fridge that couldn't move very fast, and I ated them all up...yep I did!!! Mama was really happy!!! She says i is a good little dragon!! and...I had another good big poo today, so we think I'm really settling in now. The strange thing is, as soon as mama saw the poo, she did her little happy dance again, and then she took it out again...what do you suppose the humans want with that stuff, and where do they keep it? Oh, and I also ate some green stuff in my viv today...something called collard greens. I held a piece up in my mouth for mama to eat, but she kind of wrinkled her nose and said, "no thanks, you eat it Puff". Then I went into my little swimming pool and hung for a while...here are some pics of my day, oh, and a pic of my little cave that I figured out is like a little house like Tazzie's house. 'Cept for mine doesn't have my name on yet that I can see. Mama says I will get a better house this weekend.
Mama was s'posed to work today, but she was able to get an extra day off to spend one more day home with me to be sure I am eating and getting settled in to my new digs ok.

Your paper towel bedding looks comfy and it is probably safer for you. I am on paper towels too so don't feel like we are treating you like a baby

I like reading about your super powers. Your leg muscles are really powerful and I bet that you can leap like a tiger. Maybe you could have the superpower of running in circles around the bottom of your house. Do you have a special outfit or costume when you are playing a superhero? I am trying to get my Mom to buy me a pair of sunnyglasses. Maybe you could get a pair of sunnyglasses as part of your superhero costume.

Leela, you really have so many new boyfriend choices. I still think that Rubio is a good choice. I know that he is only 10 months old but he is so handsome!

Just thought I would chime in as well. Mom shouldn't worry too much at only 6 weeks old I have been dropping in from above on crickets from as high as 10" on a twice daily basis onto tiles with no ill effect. Those first few crickets don't even see it coming!!!! :twisted:

I know how they make your heart stop! My baby ( okay he's not techincally a baby but ) made a leap from my shoulder on to a shelf of pointy aquarium decorations at the petshop Nothing happened, but oh I had a heart attack. Now I can tell when he's prepping to jump so, if I can't grab him I move near something like the dog beds :lol:

Can you tell your mom something for me. . . since you're so little she needs to make sure your food is smaller than the space between your eyes. I just thought I'd mention it, cuz it can get stuck in your stomach and then you can't poo. She can get little crickets called pinheads or 1/4" to feed you. I was just worried, since the one cricket in your picture looks really big. It is always better to eat a lot of smaller crickets and be safe, than to eat bigger crickets and get sick. Tell your mom to try ordering them from Ghann's. My last bunch of crickets came from there and they were especially yummy. I eat about 60 a day, in the evening and about 50 worms in the morning. Except that I'm out of phoenix worms and mom is trying superworms for a couple of days. She's only letting me have three at a time. I can eat them cuz I am so big. I am at least 17 hundred thousand inches long. That's big. If you keep eating your crickets, you'll get big too and then we can be superheros together.

I was thinking we should start our own thread when you get a little bigger and it can be our superhero thread. It could be Spark n Puff, superdragons! We could even have capes and masks over our faces. The first thing we could do is rescue Tazzie from the evil woman and give her to her mom. Tazzie could be our superhero computer whiz! She's really good with the computer and she could search for dragons we could rescue. . . or new owners we could help. What do you think? We'll have to ask Tazzie if she wants to help.

I don't think your mom needs to worry too much about you jumping off of your branch. Tell her that you are very strong and can jump that far. You wouldn't want to jump from your mom's shoulder, however, since anything taller than 2 and a half feet is probably too tall. One of the other owners here had their dragon jump from their shoulder to a hard floor and that dragon died, but that was from about 5 and a half feet. You're still to small to be that high up, any way.

I think you should beg your mom to get you some squash baby food. It is soooo yummy. She could get an eye dropper and put drops of squash on the tip of your nose, right above where your mouth opens. That way you can lick it off and then she can put more on. I love my squash. Tazzie wants to see a picture of me with squash on my face, so maybe mom can take a picture while the boy is feeding me. It also helps keep me hydrated, which means my poop is really wet, which I like cuz I hate taking baths. Water, Blech!! I also like it cuz it makes my mom so happy to feed me. She says nice things and snuggles me after.

I like that idea about the superheroes thread...that will be sooooo fun!!!! WooHoo!! yep, we will haf to get Tazzie to help us too, after we rescue her!!
Can your mom do photoshop and give us capes and masks?

I ended up not eating that cricket. It was too big. The reptile shop told my mom I needed the small size crickets. and there are lots of much smaller ones in the cricket keeper, so what mom has been doing is that she gets some in a glass bowl and puts them in the fridge, then after they are cold, she picks out the smaller ones and gives them to me to eat. this weekend, she is taking the big crickets back to the reptile store and gonna ask them to do an exchange for the extra small size, cuz they should have know that most of them crickets would be too big for me. As mama reads more here, she is really beginning to wonder about that reptile shop...it is called Twin Cities Reptiles, and they are supposed to be like the premier reptile shop in Minnesota...huh!! mama is starting to think they are like all the others, except that all of the reptiles there do look really good and healthy.
well my friend, I gotta get to bed, so I will write more to you tomorrow evening. mama has to work in the morning and she has to get up way earlier now to take care of me before she goes to work. i wrote to you on yours and Tazzie's page too, cuz' i didn't know you was here writing to me!!

Yeah, they seem to target the most unsafe areas, don't they? I'm working on trying to figure out when she's going to "fly". :lol: She is sneaky, though!

Leela said that at first she didn't like her greens b/c the mean old lady that had her before never gave her anything good like that to eat. But now she knows how YUMMY they are! So, she said to tell you that she is really proud of you for being such a good boy!

I'll bet your Mama is missing you a lot while she is at work. So be extra cute and sweet when she gets home, ok? I'm sure it won't be too hard for you, though!

Speaking of which, I wonder how it is that baby beardies make everything they do look so darn cute??!!!
