Thankyou for the advice.

Is saline solution like the stuff you get at pharmacist's for contact lenses? Is that safe, or is it something else I should be looking for?

Will try and get some pics.

I wouldn't get a bottle that says it is for contact lenses as it might contain other ingredients. It should come in a squirt bottle and just say Sterile Saline Solution, it's an eye wash. It has helped a lot with beardies eyes. Also wanted to mention if any runs in her mouth, don't worry because it's only purified salt water.

I had that happen to my beardie over a year ago when I just got him. I had a bad bulb and his eyes hurt and he would keep them shut.
I learned that it was for the bulb and it's called photo-kerato-conjunctivitis. (Yes I know the spelling is crazy! :wink: )

Eventually I bought a Mega-Ray. It's WONDERFUL!!! All the people here say its the best bulb on the market. And the best thing about it is that it produces UVB/UVA + HEAT! So instead of a heat lamp and a UV lamp you get both.

The quality of UV is very good and it lasts a long time too. From what I have heard up to 3 years! Where as a Repti-Sun lasts only 6 months.
They are expensive but really worth the money!

Today prissy is climbing even closer to her uva basking bulb, which I assume is a good thing. I bathed her last night but she didn't really move or anything. Will do it again tonight and try her on the saline wash and chicken baby food I got today.

I'm feeling better now because she is a lot more responsive!

Not great because looked at my bottle of saline and it says it's suitable for contacts so decided better off to not use it. Also she is not interested in her baby food. However, just gave her a bath and she is a lt more responsive nd active. She is really loving her new light, so hopefully she is on the up.

If her eyes re open is that when I should switch the tube back on?

That's great that she's a lot more responsive. Regarding the saline solution you bought, if it says on the bottle that it can be used to flush out the eyes, then it is ok. If it just says it is for use for contacts (and nothing else) then I would recommend you pick up the eye flush type. I would try the baby food again and see if she takes it. Sounds like she really enjoyed her bath though, that's a wonderful sign that she is feeling better.

Her eyes will take time to heal so I suggest you not turn it back on for a wk or even a little more.

She still hasn't opened her eyes or eaten probably but she did take a little bit of baby food today which has got to be good. Also she sat upright in her bath, where before she would just kind of sink!! Also when i put her back in her viv, she climbs straight up to her lamp so I guess it's just a matter of time now. I wish she would open her eyes and eat tho!!

Her colours seem a lot different? Is this just because she has a different light. She seams lighter than before. Her tail is still dark but with on really light patch, and lighter patched on her legs.

It sounds like she is holding steady, Roxy... I imagine a little more time will help. Yes, dragons will look VERY different under different light. When we switched from a UVB tube/basking bulb combo to using a MVB, there was a HUGE difference as the light was so much brighter... colors I'd never seen before! :mrgreen:

She does sound more alert, that's very encouraging. I wish she would open her eyes too, they must feel gritty and that's where the saline would help out.

I'm sure the new bulb is increasing her colors and making them more vibrant. If you see light patches in certain spots, she may be getting ready to shed.

Thanks again, but just a little update and some more advice please!

Prissy is much more active and moving around her tank again. She enjoys her baths but still on baby food as her eyes are still shut!

They kinda look like they are slowly opening, but I'm not sure. Her eyes are now open a tiny little bit but one eye looks sealed shut a little. Washing her eyes and she doesn't even flinch so I'm thinking it must be doing her good.

Concerned because she hasn't eaten anything properly for nearly 2 weeks and hasn't had her repti-sun either.

P.s. Her colours are getting better everyday. She's prettier than shes ever been. Looks more healthy than ever, its just her bloomin' eyes!

I'm glad to hear that she is more active, too bad that her eyes are still shut though. Would it be possible to post a picture so we can see her eyes? That's good that you're washing her eyes and she is fine with that. To try to help the eye that appears stuck shut, you could take a washcloth or a q-tip and soak it with saline and gently rub her eye with it. Then continue to flush her eyes 3 times a day, it won't do her any harm at all. Is it possible that she has some shedding skin around her eyes? One of our beardies won't open his eye when that happens to him but wiping it with saline helps loosen the skin up. Do you see any crustyness or discharge around the eye?

I suggest you still hold off on using the UVB as you don't want to set her back and could damage her eyes even more if they haven't totally healed. Unfortunately she won't be able to see the crickets, etc until she opens her eyes up. How much baby food is she eating in a day?

Hi, I looked at the picture, it does look like they are opening a little. It also looks like the skin is shedding on her upper eye lid and that can certainly make them not want to open their eyes. Let me know if it looks like that to you and I can tell you what I do to help loosen the skin on my beardies eyes.
