ok , so my bds about 8 inches now , and i feed him crickets. i have been reading everyones good opinions on dubia roachs, and how they have so many roaches they dont know what to do, as if they are easy to breed. and it sounded like price wise they would be the same as crix. well i just looked at it was like 25 bucks for only 90, i pay 25 bucks and get 1000 crix! how come they are so easy to breed and still cost so much? ive checked two websites now and they are about the same.

Well you have to consider that might be your ONLY purchase from them if you breed them. Where as crickets you have to buy over and over and over.

You live in FL your be lucky to get anyone to ship to you. Dubia are illegal in FL. When I have customers that live in FL that want dubia, I talk them into buying discoids or craniifer's. They are both legal in FL. craniifer's are expensive, about $1 each. Discoids are about the same price as dubia.
$25 for 1000 is a great price. Thats .025 each. They die really fast thats why I prefer roaches, they can live up to 18 months. Roaches are a lot easier to breed also, get a few adults and never feed them off and your set. So the $.40 each investment is worth it.

discoids and craniifer are both native to FL so they are legal. They are just like dubia minus size and coloration. But they are very close.

It's supply and demand basically. Roaches are very easy to breed, but the demand is higher than the output at this point. Dubia's in particular are slower breeders, much slower than crickets so and they grow slower. Crickets have a very short life cycle and breed very fast so it is easier to keep up with the demand overall, plus more companies breed crickets than roaches anyways.

Take a species like Lobsters or Turks, they breed nearly as fast as crickets and are very comparatively priced as a result. If Dubia bred faster, they would be cheaper than they are nowadays.

Then there are species like M. rhinoceros that take a couple of years to reach sexual maturity and may only produce 15-20 nymphs per a year. They sell anywhere from $100-200 PER A ROACH!!!!!!!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
