Wasn't sure where to post this, but I figured I'd post here and if it gets moved then alright.

We have a tornado warning for our area right now. The last time we had a bad storm blow through here we lost power for 3 days and our leopard geckos died, and we were all very upset. If we lose power just for the night, then it'll be ok. But what if we lose power for more than tonight?? How can we go about keeping our guys warm?? Any suggestions?? I just over-protective and worried.

I'd get a jar and fill it with hot water, wrapped in a sock or something to keep the tank as warm as possible. Also, I'd use those chemical heat packs that you can buy at drugstores. They're very handy for road trips as well.

we're down to just a tornado watch now and it's pouring!! The lights have flickered twice but I don't think they are going out. At least not yet. Thank you so much!!!

We lost power for 5 days last fall due to hurricane Ike remnants and 4 days in the winter due to an ice storm before I had Lilly. I'm terrified that we will lose power now. We have a generator, but I don't know if I can run the lights off of it. I know I need to pick up hand warmers to have on hand, but I'm curious do I feed her if I can't run the lights?

Fill several sock with uncooked rice, and microwave it for around 2 minutes. This will hold heat for several hours.
Is there any where you can take the animals where there is electricity in town, where you can place them in temp homes with the lights ?

It certainly is scary. We had a bad ice storm over the winter and I fed them chicken & squash babyfood. We had invested in a small propane heater that worked very well & one of the rooms stayed about 70 degrees or slightly warmer when that was running. I fed each of them by the light of a kerosene lantern then laid them down on the hand warmers that were wrapped in a towel and then wrapped each of them up in another towel to help them digest. It worked very well. One of the beardies was over 23 inches long so I used 2 of the handwarmers for him. I kept checking their body temps with my temp gun to make sure they weren't too hot or too cold. It worked very well and none of them had any problems but they were very confused of course. I didn't feed them the 1st day but did the baby food the 2nd day.

When hurricane Ike hit (keep in mind I'm in the midwest) roads were shut down and a huge part of the area was without power. It took them 2 weeks to get everyone back up. After we had the ice storm, it took us 3 days to even be able to get out of the house. I live at the top of a hill and we don't have a vehicle with 4 wheel drive. It was 4 weeks before everyone got power back after that. I'm hopeful that we will be able to put the lights on a generator if this does (heaven forbid) happen again. I think the biggest problem is that only a few rooms have power and I would have to leave her in a room with the dogs. It really does worry me because there is still a lot of damage from the two storms that may come down on power lines with our next ones. I'll have to add babyfood to my emergency list lol. I do believe we can run the oven when the power is out, can rice socks be heated in there at like 100*?

I would be afraid to put the rice socks in the oven for fear that the cloth might catch fire. You actually would be better off with hand/feet warms and is always a good idea to keep some on hand. Some of them get quite hot, up to 130 degrees so that's why you have to wrap the warmers up separately before laying your beardie down with him wrapped up too. They also hold the heat for 8 to 15 hrs depending on which ones you get. The rice socks actually cool off quite quickly.

You can use a cookie tray to "bake" the rice with. Set the temp for around 300, for about 5-10 minutes. Then fill the socks. Also, remember to wrap those in hand towels before placing them in with the animals, as they will be hot enough to burn !

Thanks guys, I'm glad someone brought that up because I've been so terrified of what will happen if we have another 5 day stretch w/o power. Sorry to steal the thread  .

I don't know if someone said this but my oven and microwave don't work when the power goes out. We had a huge storm here and the power was out for 2 days. I used hand warmers from Walgreens and Duke was fine. I fed him greens from the fridge and luckily my worms didn't die.

Yeah the oven is one of a few things that we do put on the generator. I don't know about the microwave or lights because they use SOOO much power. I know we are better off than most people having the generator, but it does still worry me (what doesn't lol).

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
