Potty time for my beardie

My beardie (a male, about 19" long) is a happy, friendly little guy we named "KittyKitty". He is seemingly healthy in every way, and loves to be gently rocked to sleep at night and sits on my shoulder while I'm at the computer.
I have two questions: (1) is it common for bearded dragons to have their potty time about every 3 or 4 days apart? (2) A couple weeks ago, I took him out for play in the sunshine, and he had been in the grass only about one minute, and proceeded to potty. He's done that every time now, when I take him out and set him on the grass. He doesn't potty in his cage...just when on the grass! Anyone else have this happen with theirs...almost like they're potty-trained!!?? Comments welcome ~

I'm not sure about the 3-4 days apart thing. But you might want to post that under health. You'll get some good advice there.

As for the going outside thing, my boy Zeus does that too! Lol. Maybe it's just an instinct. Maybe not. But either way, it makes me happy. Less to clean in his viv. Only leaves the greens he drops all over the place. Lol.

Thank you! Knowing that Zeus seems to do the same thing makes me feel more comfortable about it. This is my first dragon, and I have soooo much to learn, and this website is tops with folks like you to help us! I will also do as you suggested, and post the time-thing on health. tyvm

my beardie does the same thing - he will only poop in his special 'poop tub' when it partway filled with water. He only goes about every 3 days as well.

Most beardies prefer not to poop in their homes. My oldest one has a bowel movement every time it hits the grass as well. My younger beardie waits to go in the bath. While some may considered their beardies "potty trained", I think it is just a natural instinct for a bearded dragon to poop some where other than where it lives. We all know what beardie poo smells like! Maybe in the wild they do this to protect their homes from predators, due to the smell. Or maybe they just don't want to bask next to their poo.. would you? LOL

KittyKitty1... How old is your beardie? How much and how often do you feed him? Depending on the age of your beardie and what it is eating, 3-4 days between bowel movements may not be too concerning.

Thanks for all the input! And, gulfbrzdawn, in answer to your question, we don't know KittyKitty's age...he's been through other owners (and we can't find the history) but I'd estimate a young, full grown male. He has a wonderful appetite, and usually he eats on a daily basis;mostly grapes, squash (in small cubes) and crickets. Interesting about folks' comments on pottying in the grass. I'm learning sooo much from you all! By the way, KittyKitty loves to be rocked to sleep at night. He's such a sweetie! I'll be posting a picture of him later today. (Nov 1)

Wow you all are lucky. My 5 month old poops once sometimes twice a day all over his cage. Never in the water or during bath time but only in his cage..... it stinks. Right now I have him on paper towels because of how much he poops changeing it out every other day lol..... you all talk about taking ur bd outside do you put them on some kind of leash?

 Jeep, I've written a reply regarding a leash TWICE and forgot to hit "Submit"!
No, I don't use a leash (as yet) but place him right next to the house. He loves the bricks, and being under the eaves, etc., of the house, overhead predators can't see him very well. However, I'm always near him.
Can anyone tell me how to post his picture by a "post"? I do have him in the galleries. Thanks!

I believe Grendel has potty trained herself. For the first couple of weeks that I had her, she was pretty good about pooping in her bath. I don't think she liked that, however, so now she has decided that the only place she will poop is ... her food dish. Yum. :puke:
I've learned to not give her breakfast until after she has pooped, because otherwise, she'll eat about half of her worms, poop on the rest, and then look at me like, "I'm hungry. Can you get this disgusting mess out of here and get me some food???" :banghead:

Thanks, Grendel and Jon for your comments (couldn't help but laugh). KittyKitty is still "going in the grass", although he's done so a couple times inside.
Question for Grendel...what kind of worms do you feed yours? Meal worms? Just curious as we're trying to give KittyKitty a nice variety.
We took him for a ride yesterday in the car. He loved it. He just finished shedding his skin, and I found hints of citrus color in the new skin. Neat!

Grendel gets reptiworms (her main staple), silkworms (her favorite), hornworms, butterworms, superworms, waxworms, and occasionally mealworms (I know they're not great for her, but she loves them). I just think variety is healthy and keeps her interested in eating. I'm really not a fan of crickets. Once I move, I'll have a free source of dubia roaches, so that'll be excellent. She's kind of picky about her veggies (she prefers me to handfeed them to her).
I don't think I spoil her at all.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
