sorry to bump an older post, but our new beardie is having the exact same problem. I've been searching for someone else having this problem for 2 days to no avail until this post.
Spikes back story: We've had him for about 2 months (I think he's about 3 months old) and I started getting very suspicious that some thing was wrong about a month ago. He just doesn't seem to have the appetite that I keep reading about, and didn't seem to be growing very much even though he was very active, alert and loving. We tried everything, any and all veggies on the
care sheet, crickets and finally 10 days ago I ordered Phoenix worms which saved him I think. He really loves them and was eating about 30 smalls at a sitting. But still no signs of growth.
I knew he wasn't impacted because I
bath him every other day and he was having bowel movements. Then 2 days ago I took him out of his tank and fed him he was doing exactly what this poster described. It's like his depth perception is totally off. He also seemed a bit wobbly when he walked.
I started crying and felt so bad for him. I decided that enough was enough. Checked his setup again. Turns out the light the pet shop sold us was an Exo Terra Sun Glo. All UVA and no UVB. (Don't even get me going on this topic, I'm furious!) So I had my husband pick up an Exo Terra Solar Glo and he also got a Heat Glo to keep the temps up. The only other thing I can figure to set this off was that my son had forgotten to turn off his Sun Glo and he'd been under it for almost 20 hours straight.
It's been almost 48 hours since his lights were changed, and he seems a bit better. At this point the only thing we can get him to eat are the Phoenix Worms when he can catch them and I gave him a couple of wax worms just to get something in his belly.
Please, any advice at all? Clearly he's having a calcium deficiency because of the lighting, would this affect his vision? How long does it take to get him back on track?
Our current set up is as follows:
55 gallon tank
Temps on basking area about 105. Cool area is approx 80.
Ext Terra Solar Glo with a range of about 12 - 36" depending on where he's at in the tank. (now on timer set at 14 hours a day)
Heat Glo bulb that runs 24 hours a day.
