Hi, I have a beautiful beardie called Trevor and we have had him a year, he was 2 when we got him (rehomed) so he will be 3 now, but in the last few months, he has been acting stressed.
We have taken him to the vets twice in the last 2 months, firstly for his refusal to eat any salad and often displaying a grey or black beard, they said his eyes looked puffy which might be a heart problem so we had a scan and he came back fine and healthy. We just need to gut load more which we are now.
We returned only a month later because his poo started to look runny. Also I had just noticed that one of his back legs was not able to straighten at the knee and I suddenly felt a huge rush of guilt that something had happened and we had not noticed or our husbandry was incorrect. I took a sample and the vet said there was a little more bacteria then normal but that may have been because the poo was a day old (I put it in a container and in the fridge). The vet believed his knee is down to past MBD which is now healed but it does not to seem to cause him any issues walking or any sore points. When watching videos I'd filmed of him from when we first got him I noticed he was walking the same way, I can't believe we missed it after almost a year! She did point out that some of his teeth were brown but she didn't touch on the subject more. She said he was healthy still and weighed about 550g (he is about 16 to 17in long).
That was about 3 weeks ago now and he, in the last 4 or 5 day, has stopped eating his superworms. We've tried many other feeders but he is very (annoyingly) fussy and only really eats supers so now he isn't even eating them I am worried. He ate one 2 days ago but has had none since. Just now he looked at the worm but that was it. He now weighs 518g as of 15 minutes ago. He is active so he is not brumating unless I misunderstand it but he also sometimes seems agitated in his vivarium and he has a black or grey beard. We take him out, bathe him (which he seems to enjoy because he lightens up in colour).
I will arrange another visit to the vet about the potential for mouth rot, but was wondering if I am off the mark or if any of you lovely beardie people who have more experience then me could point something out that I may have missed or that I'm doing wrong. I not only want him to be healthy, I want him to be happy too!
Husbandry:
Hot side: 95-100f
Cool side: 80-85f
UVB: 12% Arcadia 39w (takes up almost the whole length of his 4ft tank)
Tank 4ft wide by 22in deep, 20in high with 6 vents. He is getting a custom built 6ft x2ft x 2ft tank in the next few weeks (just waiting for delivery) so worried he is going to get stressed with the moved considering he already seems a little unhappy)
Substrate: Was textured lino flooring but was a nightmare to properly clean and I was worried about the heat to recently took it out after it being in for a few months, now I'm using kitchen towel but intend to put textured tile in the new vivarium when it arrives.
I hope I haven't missed out anything. Thank you in advance.
