Poorly bearded dragon

My around 5 month old bearded dragon ate 1.5cm of egg crate 4 days ago. I was unable to pull it out his mouth before it was swallowed. I have really fed him up over the last few days in the hope he'd pass it. He now has diarrhoea. He's bright eyed, inquisitive and active. I'm going to bath him in plain paediatric rehydration solution. Can anyone recommend anything else please? Does he need the vets?

Yes, he would need the vet. Now that it's not coming out, it's stuck in his digestive tract somewhere, that's why the runs. It's called impaction and it's very painful and can cause damage inside, so if you could get him to the vet asap that would be the best bet. I'm sorry he got ahold of that wood, they are very fast when they see something they like. Beardies swallow lots of things, it's just too bad it hasn't come out yet. Please keep me updated about your dragon, k?

Hello,

Let us know how your dragon is doing. Were you able to get him to a vet for this?

I have spoken to the vet, who advised prune juice with Olive oil mix to drink, to continue bathing 3 times a day with gentle strokes on flanks as cardboard is not a sharp item, feed as usual, soft if necessary. Booked in for the morning tomorrow if necessary. Come straight in if he seems lethargic. The vet was happy he's still bright eyed, active and inquisitive including eating. Fingers crossed Maverick passes it very soon.

Hello,

So it wasn't a real big piece of cardboard then? They can eat the strangest things!
The prune juice or baby food prune puree would be fine. Sugar free applesauce or canned
pumpkin mixed with olive or coconut oil, just a drop or two, should help move things along
also. I hope he passes it through soon! Keep us posted on him.

Thankyou I will try these also. It was around 1.5cm bit of cardboard. Fingers crossed he'll be Ok, I've had him since he was 8grams 16cm long. He's such a character

I use the pumpkin, I also get a great probiotic/digestive liquid from Tracie at her site www.bug-de-lite.com. She has alot of good things that are great for dragons. I get a Rept-hydrate for electrolites, if I feel a dragon is getting dehydrated. Helps alot. Please keep us posted over the next few days on how he's doing.

Yesterday morning Maverick was booked into the vets. I bathed him in dioralyte ( plain) and gently stroked his flanks, he passed a good poo and seemed so happy and alert. I cancelled the vets. Maverick is thankfully back to his old self, happy alert and inquisitive ? Thank-you for all the advice, very much appreciated

So glad to hear he pooped, it's always a big celebration at my house when Castiel or Cierra poop, they are very slow in doing so. I do the massage thing every time they get a bath and if not, then pumpkin, which usually works. I'm so glad he's back to normal, we sure do worry about our babies :D

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
