Hi, I'm new here, just an old hippie that loves his new beardies. I have two, a male and female that are brother and sister, 11 months old now, named Fred and Ethel Mertz. They have so much personailty, it's hard to believe they are not human, sometimes. They were 8 months old when we got them, they live very happily together (yes, i know what THEY say) and they are definitely bonded as a couple. They share a 55 gallon aquarium tank. They eat about 5 or six crickets a day, large ones, fish bait size. They also enjoy mid sized meal worms too. They have their daily salad and assorted greens and they love green peas, corn, apple, and an ocassional juvenile food pellet soaked in cranberry juice.

When we first got them, they were about 10 or 11 inches long, maybe 12, but they are about an inch or two longer now. My question is, it seems that everytime they poop, EVERYDAY, it gets bigger everyday. Now it is almost the size of my little finger. It has dawned on me that if they are going to get 20 to 24 inches long, their poop is going to get much much bigger and it really worries me about getting ti out and disposing of it.
How does everyone else handle the poop?

i only have a 6.5 inch BD so i dont have that problem yet, though he made a pretty good size stinky one yesterday that was pretty impressive for his size, i was like wheeew, im glad these arent bigger yet lol.
i think by the time he is makeing poop that big ill have him on playsand, and playsand might dry it up and disfuse the smell enough. maybe you can start collecting wood to build them a bigger cage so you wont have to worry so much about them stepping in it by the time they get bigger in size

I use toilet paper to pick it up, throw it in the toilet, and then use a natural baby wipe to disinfect the area. Aside from the probable fighting issue between two beardies housed together, they will mate when they mature. This would be inbreeding. Be careful, and read up on all the caresheets you see on this site.

Hello there,

Im not a fan of poop at all so I train my dragons to poop in their daily bath.
Then all I do is let it flush down the drain ^_^ no pooper scooping for me!

Lucky, Houdini has pooped in the bath ONCE, and decided he didn't like it. I had him trained to poop on a paper towel, but he believes he's too good for that.

Hehe, I think some are more trainable than others.
Ruben hates his bathes so now he knows that if he poops he is taken out of the evil water.

Yeah, I always tell him that if he goes in the water, he gets out! I give him a bath in the same container I feed him in. He has no problem going to the bathroom in there when there's no water in there. Just keeping me on my toes. lol.

thank you very much for the replies. It really wories me when I think the poop might double in size.

Yup, it gets bigger !

I cut shop towels (the blue paper-towel-like rolls) in half and keep a pile of them handy and also a small garbage can by the tank that seals nice when it's closed, and empty it often. But i like the idea of flushing it, i never thought of that.

I wish my BD was as well trained so that he would just poop in the bath! Normally he finds something in the viv thats hard to clean and poops on that. He's 13 months old(approx), 17 inches from nose to tail tip and some of his poops can be pretty substantial! when he goes on the substrate I use a home made poop-scoop that I made out of a small plastic water bottle. Then dump the poo and dirty substrate in the bin. But I'm on the lookout for a kids miniature sand shovel that they sell in summer at beach shops. Wrong time of year to find one here in Ireland tho!!

Seacow - when I had sand I used a fine-netted aquariam net.
It works as a wonderful seive and gets out even the tiny bits of dirt.
You can find them in any pet or fish store for a pound.

Can't believe i didn't think of that. I got an aquarium awhile ago and it came with two nets. I've kept one as a spare. Thanks for the tip! :)

is the poop suppose to be very stinky? bens poop is quite smelly for the size, i wasnt sure what was normal. and does your BD ever smell like poop a little, even though there isnt poop on them?

Very stinky poops can be indicative of paracites, and its worth getting a faecal done if it really is a disturbing smell.
Then again what poop doesnt smell? Its very difficult to gauge :)

Dragons generally should not have an odour to them, although when they are shedding they can smell a bit musty.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
