Hey guys so I'm finally done setting up my enclosure for my new beardie, but at night I turn off the lights and then on with the ceramic heat bulb, question is would it be safe to put a pool noodle in the enclosure for him to climb on to get closer to the bulb if he needs more heat?
If you are a new beardie owner, don't freak out if you look at your beardie while sleeping and think it died - their metabolism slows down A LOT at night when they cool down and rest. Many people have thought they killed their dragon the first few nights. You can sit there and stare at them and never seem the breath. Just turn their lights on and allow them to warm up. If the dragon is cold and not breathing, that's normal. If the dragon is under the basking light, warm and not breathing, then you might have an issue...just remember - your dragon isn't dead until it is warm & dead.
I bought flat rock (kind of like a paving stone) from Home Depot and put on top of my little hut so Monster could get a little closer to the basking light. It's heavy enough she can't move it, and rough enough she can grab it and climb up onto it, and it holds some heat so when we put her back in the tank she can warm up touch faster with a warm rock under hear. If you have a wood perch, these are fairly uniform to raise up the wood. Also, instead of bleaching the wood or stone to sanitize after a poop-fest, you can clean them without chemicals and toss them in the oven at about 275-300 degrees for about 30 minutes to make sure all the bacteria are dead.
