Poll of Northern California Beardies

So.. Twitch and Hermes have been acting really weird. Running around like they never do, arm-waving from both and Hermes is head-bobbing like a madlizard. They never do this. Derrick's theory is they are reacting to street construction on the next street but they did it long after constr knocked off last nite and first thing this morning before it started. They can see each other and are certainly feeding off each other's behavior but they have been able to see each other for months and have never done this before. The weather is really weird for August... but we also JUST got back from a week's vacation. Are they acting like the cats, pissed at us for leaving them with a sub-slave? Is it breeding time and Hermes and Twitch are flirting? Cuz that wouldn't work, he's still 1/2 her size tho they're the same age... or are they predicting an earthquake? Just curious if any of the other bay-area beardies are acting out or if this is just our house.
For the record, Hermes is always active but now he's HYPER and Twitch has been lazy for months but she's off the hook!

I havnt noticed any change here. Roo and lexia have been showing their little tudes when they see another beardie tho. All of mine are buzy bees when out of the viv but in the viv only at feeding times. The weather has been crazy i have to keep switching bulbs to manage their temps seems every few days. What are their ages? Maybe that has something to do with it soon as the girls hit 6 months they have been headbobbing and showing tudes.

Hermes will be 1 in 10 days and Twitch we don't know exactly but the same age to maybe a month younger. Hermes is Kang & Thoth's baby bruver...

Know what I figured out while hubby was here for lunch, is the tree trimmers are doing our complex, cutting trees and using a wood chipper, and have been here a couple days, on top of the street construction nearby so bet that's it. It's funny tho to see Twitch glass-dancing which she hadn't done in months. We did check their temps and little lower than they've been but hi 90's 98.5 or so so think that's OK. They are both eating up a storm and needed 2nds on salad yesterday which is always good. Plus Twitch pooped 2 days in a row nice little baby-poop today lol but guess she wanted to be all cleaned out... usually it's 7-9 days. I think I may try to block off the end of Hermes' tank like I had it when we got him, so they can't see each other, to see if that will calm them down.

I would chalk it up to being *gasp* teenagers. Nero has been head-bobbing so much that I'm always afraid his head is going to pop off :shock: He even bobs at me when I put him in the bathtub :roll: He'll just do it for no reason and hubby and I will be sitting watching TV and look over and there's Nero, bobbin' away. No black beard or anything, just plain old goofiness. Poor thing has to wait awhile until he can do something with those hormones though... his "mail order bride" won't be two until 2011 :wink:

I'm in SoCal by the way, but just wanted to add that my vote is for hormones :mrgreen:

That does make sense with what we're seeing, guess we just didn't expect them to both jump into adolescence at the same exact friggin moment :roll: but since they're the same age we'll just have to accept that as the answer for now. Plus Hermes is shedding his belly n legs which we hadn't noticed so course he's going nuts... phew. no earthquakes

Should I separate the tanks, you think, or block the end of Hermes' so they can't see each other? For now it's good for us to see them both eating like crazy, pooping daily :!: well Hermes always had but Twitch only this week, and getting exercise but we don't want to do anything wrong to cause them extra stress...

Mercury is still acting about the same, but Linky - who's been "hormonal" for a couple of months now is still trying to bob his head right off his shoulders!

Sunny has noticed Zelda and is doing his BESTEST to impress her, and Destiny... well, she just watches everyone else and rolls her eyes LOL!!!!!

Jack is in the same room too, but he's not interested in the others, and Eragon Tazzy and Star are in other parts of the house.

Did you ever get a length measurement on Hermes? Im interested to know how long he is! Mercury didnt grow at ALL for a couple of months after we got him, but now he's in a MAJOR growth spurt!

ok we finally got measurements. Hermes is 15" long and weighs 10.82 oz. He's shedding again, never seems to stop!
Twitch is 19.5" long and weighs 1.5 lbs. Now I have to figure out how to convert that to grams to compare?

1 ounce = 28.35 grams.

Therefore... Hermes weighs 306.75 grams and Twitch weighs 680.4 grams. Big Boy :shock: Nero is 20.5 inches long and his last weigh in was 588.

cool, thanks! Hermes has been buffing up and they are still both acting very active, I think we're going to block off the side of Hermes' tank like it was when we first got him, so they can't see each other and stress each other out.
