Friday before last the weather was nice so Pogo's people took her outside for a bit to enjoy some sun. Pogo frolicked, as she is want to do on occasion, and she headed for the woods. Her dad brought her back twice. On the second time, the dad went inside to use the bathroom. On his return, Pogo the Dragon Princess was nowhere to be found. He did not panick as she is always just inside the woods, surveying her outside domain. After some thirty minutes of searching, he became perplexed. She had never strayed very far and was always found in short order.
Her male slave roused the rest of the castle and forced them all to look for her into the night.
No Pogo.
He left the lights on, put her pool out (even though it was a bit too cold for that sort of thing) and subsequently searched for her every day so far into the woods that even his neighbors asked him what he was doing. On the fifth day we had the entire neighborhood out in the woods searching for our precious girl.
No Pogo.
We have cried, we have asked the dogs who always appointed themselves as her protectors to help, we have cried, we have beat up on ourselves and we have cried some more. The male has nearly had a meltdown. We almost put her home in the attic today but, although we both were thinking the same thing, neither of us could stomach actually putting it away.
The weather has been horrible for Dragons. Cold, wet, snow, sleet, rain and a hail storm that coated the ground. The dogs were harrassed every day to go and find the baby - their noses work.
Tonight while we were watching a movie the dogs started barking. I glanced out the window to see no car in the driveway - I thought that was odd. The dogs continued to bark, ecxept for Wolfie who is the least aggressive of our bunch but always the first to bark at cars. I shined a light up into the woods and the rest of our pack had something bayed.
I have not put on shoes so fast in my life since I was in the military and my life was in danger. Somehow I knew........I knew they had found her. I ran into the woods in pink crocs. I gathered her into my arms. Tears filled my eyes then and .........now.
We have our baby back. She was wet with dog licking but she does not have a scratch on her. She is very indignant and is not happy at all to have been outside for two weeks in the cold but she is healthy and unhurt.
Oh - we are all crying around here. A wonderful thing has happened today.
